Construction Begins on Halastó Street
Construction has started on the 88‑metre section of Halastó Street between Diófa Street and Vág Street in Debrecen.
The HUF 70 million investment responds to local residents’ needs and will improve traffic not only for those living on the affected street but also for the wider neighbourhood.
At today’s briefing, Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa emphasized that although the section under construction is relatively short, its significance in the everyday life of local residents is much greater. For those who, for example, wish to travel from Kishegyesi Road toward the city centre, exiting the area is currently only possible via a detour. The development of this section of Halastó Street will therefore make travel easier for residents in the Diófa Street area as well, representing meaningful progress for several hundred people.
The deputy mayor noted that planning for the street had already begun in previous years, and this year the city succeeded in securing funding for implementation, allowing the project to be carried out with a budget of HUF 70 million. Due to technical reasons, the narrow street will receive a paving‑stone surface, and rainwater drainage will also be addressed. He recalled that the city is allocating a total of HUF 2.1 billion from this year’s budget for the construction of new road sections.
Gergely Pacza, Head of the Urban Development Department, explained that construction is expected to take one to one and a half months. He also highlighted that the construction team is in continuous communication with residents and is organizing the work to minimize disruption to daily life and traffic in the area.
