Contractors Selected for Debrecen’s New Logistics and Truck Terminal
The development of the Debrecen Logistics and Truck Terminal in the Northwestern Economic Zone has reached another significant milestone, as the public procurement procedure for the construction works has been concluded, the Mayor’s Office announced.
The procedure was conducted by Debreceni Ingatlanfejlesztő Kft. (DING Kft.), owned by the Municipality of Debrecen, in accordance with applicable regulations. As a result of the procedure, the consortium formed by Debreceni Mélyépítő Holding Kft. and KE-VÍZ 21 Zrt. submitted the most favorable bid for carrying out the construction works, with a value of approximately HUF 4.7 billion.
Construction works are expected to begin in March 2026 and, according to plans, to be completed in the first half of 2027.
In June 2022, DING Kft. won funding under the Connecting Europe Facility program for the establishment of a safe and secure truck parking facility. The aim of the project is to create a regional, concentrated, and economically efficient logistics and truck terminal serving the BMW factory, its suppliers, city and regional clients, the Southern Economic Zone, and the city’s smaller industrial parks alike. With the implementation of the truck parking facility, the city and its road network will be significantly relieved of corporate logistics traffic, while transport infrastructure safety and reliability will be strengthened and the conditions for safe and sustainable mobility improved. The investment will contribute to the more efficient and safer operation of the European transport network.
All three of the city’s industrial parks will be easily accessible from the site via the M35 motorway within a maximum of 10 minutes, and the truck terminal will also be capable of serving transit traffic on the M35. An intermodal railway terminal is located in the immediate vicinity of the truck terminal, where, with the newly established customs office, downtown traffic can also be relieved of trucks arriving for customs clearance.
As part of the development of the Debrecen Logistics and Truck Terminal, 196 ESPORG silver-rated and 64 ESPORG gold-rated protected and secure truck parking spaces will be created on a nearly 9-hectare parking area, representing outstanding standards even at the European level.
Mayor László Papp stated on Médiacentrum Debrecen’s Hírpont that the truck terminal will greatly contribute to enabling the industrial parks to operate and connect without affecting the city’s transport system.
A total of more than 44,000 square meters of basalt concrete and over 6,000 square meters of asphalt pavement will be constructed, with rainwater drained through 3,800 meters of stormwater channels. For irrigating green areas, two irrigation water reservoirs of 150 cubic meters each will be built. Firefighting water will be provided by two 30-cubic-meter fire water reservoirs.
A total of 1,950 meters of drinking water pipeline and 1,800 meters of sewage pipeline will be installed in the area to serve the service buildings.
The comfort of arriving drivers will be ensured, among other things, by:
- 8 sanitary buildings,
- 4 rest buildings,
- 3 dining facilities, and
- 2 gatehouse buildings.
