Csokonai National Theatre held its season closing
The Csokonai National Theatre closed a successful season. Sixteen performances, 560 theatre events, almost 100 thousand spectators – this is the summary of the season, which was evaluated by the theatre community at today’s season-ending company meeting.
In the 2024/25 season, the Debrecen company entertained the audience with a diverse range of genres, including prose, opera, dance performances, and a fairy tale performance.
“There is such humble work going on in this company and team; nearly 300 of us work here to entertain the Debrecen audience every night, and thanks to this teamwork, these performances become a matter of the heart for all of us,” artistic director of the Csokonai National Theatre Dániel Halasi highlighted. A total of 16 performances and numerous guest performances were included in the repertoire. The theatre hosted 560 events for which tickets could be purchased, and this was attended by approximately one hundred thousand people this season.
“Quite a few of our performances were sold out, but over 90 percent were sold out compared to other theatres, which is a particularly high number,” director of the Csokonai National Theatre Szabolcs Mátyássy pointed out. One of the standout events of the season was the arrival of the company featuring the Oscar-winning American actor Tim Robbins in the city.
“China and Los Angeles came here, and an Oscar-winning actor stayed here in the 160-year-old building of the Debrecen Csokonai Theatre. I think this is a significant event in the city’s cultural and theatrical life, and we can also thank the Csokonai Theatre for this,” Deputy Mayor István Puskás emphasised.
The Csokonai National Theatre has announced a jubilee season for the 2025/26 season, in which the audience will be treated to 17 new performances and 10 performances remaining on the programme.
