Debrecen Wins Green Innovation of the Year Award

Debrecen was recognized in the innovation category at the “Flowery Hungary” (“Virágos Magyarország”) Awards.

The unique green developments clearly illustrate the city’s environmental protection measures and efforts, which are also important elements of Debrecen’s “Flowering Hungary” application. Debrecen has been participating in the competition of settlements for years, winning most recently last year, while this year it competed for the Green Innovation of the Year award at the national competition.

In July, the three-member jury of the 32nd competition had the opportunity to experience Debrecen’s application firsthand—from community gardens and the maintenance of green areas to water replenishment and a comprehensive system monitoring the state of the environment. The delegation toured the city to view the various green developments, all designed to make Debrecen more livable, closer to nature, and more sustainable.

Debrecen won the “Green Innovation of the Year” award for the creation of the Environmental Monitoring System at the 32nd “Flowery Hungary” (“Virágos Magyarország”) Awards.
