Debrecen institution at the top on the best technical schools rankings
The National Vocational and Adult Education Office (NSZFH) has prepared the TOP 100 Technical School Ranking for 2026.
The list was prepared based on authentic data from the NSZFH and the Education Office: it examines the students’ input knowledge, training results, and dual training indicators, as well as the number of teachers and digital equipment of the institutions.
This year’s ranking was prepared based on a partially renewed methodology, since participation in dual training has now also become measurable.
While this year, institutions can be included in the top 100 of the ranking with a median score of 82, institutions must achieve 90 points out of 100 to be included in the top ten.
The majority of technical schools (79) are under the management of a vocational training center, while the other institutions are typically operated by a church organization or a higher education institution. Every county in the country has a technical school that is a member of the TOP100 list.
At the top of the TOP 100 Technical School Ranking is the Debrecen SZC Mechwart András Mechanical and Informatics Technical School, where students study professions in mechanical engineering, IT, and telecommunications, as well as specialized machine and vehicle manufacturing sectors.
The school was in 8th place on this list two years ago, where studying professions offers young people a secure future.
In 8th place is the Debrecen SZC Bethlen Gábor Technical School of Economics and Dormitory, in 21st is the Debrecen SZC Chemical Technical School, in 66th place is the Berettyóújfalu SZC Technical School of Economics, and in 94th is the Debrecen SZC Péchy Mihály Construction Technical School.
Grammar schools are also making a difference
As recently reported, the completion of the National Grammar School Ranking based on the latest educational data for the year 2026 has also been completed.
Debrecen Fazekas Mihály High School is the best grammar school in Debrecen, in 29th place on this list. Tóth Árpád High School is in 38th place, the Kossuth Lajos Practical Grammar School of the University of Debrecen is in 58th place, and next to them is Ady Endre Grammar School on the list in 85th place.
The HVG has also prepared its list of 100, where an educational institution from Debrecen was also included. While last year, on the 2025 list, Debrecen Fazekas Mihály Gymnasium was 13th, this year they improved one position: they are now in 12th place.
All conditions are met in Debrecen
As Mayor László Papp pointed outin his cycle assessmnent in the spring of 2024, Debrecen’s education system is growing and developing together with the economy. In recent years, the vocational training center, the school district, and the University of Debrecen have provided significant support for the development of training processes required by the city’s economy. Accordingly, the number of students at the Debrecen Vocational Training Center has almost doubled compared to 2015, and thanks to the developments taking place at the university’s Faculty of Engineering, serious progress is also being made in the field of engineering education in the years ahead.
“The main goal in this area is to have training and jobs that attract young people to Debrecen and, by offering a career path, create a lifelong alliance between the city and its young citizens,” stated the mayor, highlighting, “As a result of our work in recent years, all the conditions are in place for Debrecen to win the labor market competition already at school and to rely on the vast majority of Hungarian skilled labor when filling new jobs, a significant number of whom learned their profession in this city.”
