The special gift was donated to Debrecen to mark four decades of cultural cooperation between the province of Tojama and the City.
Secretary General of the Art and Culture Association of Tojama Province, Koizumi Kazuhiro said on Monday’s Japanese evening that “the family heirloom is donated to protect the city’s citizens from illness, accidents, evil spirits and other misfortunes”.
In his speech, Mayor László Papp highlighted that the cultural exchange programme between the two regions had resulted in a number of outstanding artistic programmes, with more than 800 amateur and professional artists performing in Tojama, adding that the four-decade-old relationship is still going strong today, with a sincere friendship between the two cities.
The Samurai armour donated to Debrecen will be displayed in the renovated Old Town Hall, where it will be on display for all to see.
“It is donated to the City of Debrecen with the aim of keeping away evil spirits and protecting the city and its citizens from evil spirits, which we are honoured and delighted to receive this wonderful gift,” Mayor László Papp said.
