Debrecen running race could help save another boy’s life

The Krones Charity Run entry fees will be donated to the Save Beni Foundation.

Krones Hungary Ltd. is organising its traditional running race for the fourth time this year, which is already the second year it has been called the Krones Charity Run. The event on 10 May will not only offer a sporting experience, but will also once again serve a charitable purpose, this year’s sponsor is the Save Beni Foundation.

The special feature of the race is that runners can complete a significant part of the distance directly through the production halls operating on the internal routes of the Krones factory in Debrecen, with this concept meaning a completely unique sporting experience in the Debrecen area. Last year, more than 700 people took part in the charity running race of Krones Hungary Ltd. At that time, they supported the recovery of a three-year-old boy, Ádin Kneifel, with HUF 3.3 million. The run attracted national attention, and thanks to this, an anonymous donor fully covered Ádin’s remaining treatment costs.

The company is organising the running event with a similar goal this year, and for the first time, the community has been involved in selecting the organisation to be supported. Several hundred users submitted their suggestions in the nomination phase announced on the Krones Hungary Facebook page. Of the nominations received, three organisations, Foundation for Children with Leukaemia, the “HajráAnyu” (“Go Mom”) Non-Profit Association, and the Save Beni Foundation were included in the vote.

“Almost 4,000 votes were received, most of them supporting the Save Beni Foundation. Five-year-old Beni is struggling with a rare muscular atrophy that could soon put him in a wheelchair, and in a few years his heart and respiratory muscles could even stop working. He has only one chance for recovery, a gene therapy available abroad, worth HUF 1.3 billion. Krones Hungary is helping to raise the necessary money for this. The company will double the amount raised from the entry fees of the multi-distance race, which will contribute to the treatment of the little boy. Charity is not a campaign for us, but a mission. As we experienced last year, moving together, the power of community, can bring real change to a family’s life. That is why we believe that when we run together for Beni, we can move the world again,” as was said at the company’s press conference. The organisers are looking for runners of all ages, both professional and amateur, in distances from 1 km to 10 km. The goal is common, to run with Beni, for Beni, in the hope of a better future.
