Debrecen school to get new climbing wall this fall
Children will be able to climb on these walls at low heights without the need for rope belay systems.
Thanks to the program of the State Secretariat Responsible for Active Hungary, 105 primary and secondary schools will be equipped with climbing walls in the upcoming school year. Most of these bouldering walls, which do not require rope belay, will be installed in gymnasiums, according to the Secretariat.
In response to inquiries from local media, they revealed that five schools in Hajdú-Bihar County will receive climbing walls:
- Szoboszlói Úti Primary School (Debrecen)
- II. Rákóczi Ferenc Primary School, High School, Vocational School, and Elementary Art School (Hajdúsámson)
- Arany János Primary School (Létavértes)
- Gönczy Pál Reformed Sports and Bilingual Primary School (Hajdúszoboszló)
- Ábrányi Emil Primary School (Nyírábrány)
The goal of the National School Climbing Wall Construction Program is to construct bouldering walls in educational institutions, making physical activity enjoyable for students both during and outside of PE classes. This initiative aims to create engaging and accessible opportunities for all children to be physically active.
They emphasized that children will climb at low heights without rope belay systems.
A total of 105 schools have been awarded funding, with developments reaching nearly every county in Hungary. The climbing walls will be 2.7 to 3.5 meters high, allowing children to practice climbing at various difficulty levels. The support also includes impact-absorbing mats for safety.
Each institution will receive up to HUF 5 million in non-refundable support, funded by the State Secretariat Responsible for Active Hungary from domestic sources. The development is overseen by the Hungarian Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation, which will also train the teachers.
The Secretariat highlights that climbing enhances motor coordination, builds core and upper body strength, sharpens concentration and problem-solving skills, and boosts self-confidence.
