Debrecen to Upgrade and Expand Playgrounds and Outdoor Fitness Parks

At its meeting on Thursday, the City Assembly adopted Debrecen’s 2026 budget. Mayor László Papp stated that this year’s budget represents security, development and prosperity for Debrecen.

Under the Green Communities, Liveable Districts chapter of the budget, HUF 95 million has been allocated to continue the “Debrecen Is Our Garden” programme (for flower distribution and the creation of floral points). New community gardens will be established from HUF 51 million, while HUF 13 million will be spent on the development of dog exercise areas (the one in Epreskert will be modernised and a new one will be created on the Kút Street side of Árpád Square).

In addition, HUF 350 million will be allocated to the development of playgrounds, outdoor gyms and sports pitches. The following projects are specified in the budget:

Playground developments

Renovation of the playground on Zöld Street
Expansion of the playground on Darabos Street
Expansion of the playground on Tokaji–Kiserdő Street and fence repairs
Playground development in the courtyard of the district nursery school in Kismacs
Development of the playground at Nagy Katalin Memorial Park – Borbíró Square
Development of the playground behind Cívis 3
Development of the Sziget-kék Thematic Park
Development of the playground on Domb Street, including fence construction
Development of the playground on Harkály Street in Haláp
Renovation of the playground in the Ispotály – Erzsébet block
Playground equipment development in Bánk
Developments at the playground in Tócóskert
Development of the playground on Zsigmond Kemény Street
Development of the playground at Liget Square with shade sail installation
Development of the park on Nagybánya Street and relocation of the playground on Ököritó Street
Creation of a new playground in Pallag
Creation of a new playground on Kolónia Street
Creation of a new playground on Kürtös Street

Outdoor fitness park developments

Installation of fitness equipment in the fenced area next to the Tócó Stream dam on Gáspár Károli Street
Outdoor gym at Madách Square
Creation of an outdoor gym at the playground on Pandúr Street
Creation of an outdoor gym behind 96 Derék Street
Creation of an outdoor gym in the park in front of the Platán Hotel
