An accessible area has been created on Külső Diószegi Road for the training of therapy dogs with various agility equipment. But they are not the only ones who are welcome here. The training and examination centre, which also functions as a community space, was established by the Therapeutic Space Foundation with 18 million forints of its own resources.

The park was dreamed up by Evelin Kovács, the Head of the Therapeutic Space Foundation, who has been working with “Pajti”, her therapy dog, for a year and a half, but the joint work often failed due to the lack of a suitable place. The new dog park offers a solution for others as well.

“I was attracted by the beautiful neighbourhood and the green belt. This is something that is definitely missing for the children living in the city and we thought of creating this training centre in a safe place, which would also serve as an examination centre,” Evelin Kovács said.

The park is not only a place for dog training and classes, but also a testing centre.

They also want to organise theme days and hope to make it a popular new community space in the neighbourhood.

“All families are welcome, not just those who want to use the services of the therapy dogs,” a Municipal Representative  István Kovács said.

A number of measures have been taken to make life easier for dog owners in Debrecen in recent years. For example, from April, all dogs can travel free of charge on DKV vehicles.
