Demolition work is underway on Sámsoni Road, allowing the four‑lane development to proceed
Following lengthy legal proceedings, possession of the corner property at Sámsoni and Acsádi Roads has been secured, which had long prevented the completion of the four-lane expansion of Sámsoni Road on the section between the Mátyás király Street junction and Simon István Street.
Several structures stand on the property, and their demolition has now begun.
In response to an inquiry by Dehir.hu, the Ministry of Construction and Transport previously stated that the property can be handed over to the contractor as a work site after the demolition work has been completed; from that point, a maximum of 222 days (less than seven and a half months) will be required to carry out the works.
Last October, traffic resumed on a section of Sámsoni Road spanning over one kilometre that has been expanded to two lanes in each direction. As part of the development, traffic lights, a service road, a bicycle path, sidewalks and parking spaces were also constructed. Two-thirds of the section between the Mátyás király Street junction and Simon István Street has been completed so far. The road development encountered an unexpected obstacle: at the Acsádi Road junction, the acquisition of a property delayed the work for more than a year and a half.
The expropriation procedure had long since been concluded, and the owner of the affected property had also received compensation, which they considered insufficient.
The Ministry of Construction and Transport – as the project developer – requested the enforcement of the handover of possession from the National Tax and Customs Administration, but this was also prevented by the owner, so the tax authority imposed a fine on them. The owner also challenged the legality of this in court and requested the suspension of the enforcement proceedings conducted by the tax authority. The Debrecen Regional Court recently dismissed the claim and did not grant immediate legal protection for the property, so there was no longer any legal obstacle preventing the state from taking possession of the area.
In the next and final phase, the first one-kilometre section of Sámsoni Road will be expanded to four lanes, which requires the acquisition of 51 properties. This development will be carried out as part of the modernization of the railway line between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza. The public procurement procedure for selecting the contractor is currently underway.
