DKV buses will run on a diversion route from Tuesday due to the junction development in Debrecen

The development of the junction of Szoboszlói Road, Erzsébet Road and Külsővásártér has started. The junction is used by 35,000 vehicles a day, and its capacity is expected to increase by 20-25% with the construction of new lanes. The work will take a year and a half.

DKV had originally planned to run its services on the original route, but the transport company had previously indicated that they would monitor the traffic situation on the affected section and in the event of significant line delays, services would be diverted during the reconstruction.

DKV has now announced that, based on operational experience, buses 10, 10Y, 46, 46H, 46Y, 71, 71A and 146 will operate on the Erzsébet Street – Antall József Street  – Széchenyi Street – Nyugati Street  diversion route from Tuesday the 25th of  March until the 31st of August in both directions.

Buses in the direction of Rugó Street /Inter Tan-Ker Zrt./Határ Road/North-Western Economic Zone will not stop at MÁV medical clinic and the Ambulance station, but will instead stop at the Barna Street stop.

In the direction of the Main Station services will not stop at Mechwart András Technical School and Ambulance Station stops, but will instead stop at the Intercity Bus Station stop.

Trolleybuses 5 and 5A, as well as buses 19, 39 and 61 will continue to run with increased timetables.

The first phase of traffic restrictions will include the following changes:

– With the closure of the outer lane of the Szoboszlói Road towards the city, the section between Keleti sor and Erzsébet Street will be narrowed to 2×1 lane. Keleti sor  has become one-way, with traffic from Szoboszlói Road only inbound to Keleti sor, not outbound.

– The section of Erzsébet Street leading to the bus station before Miklós Street is reduced to two lanes.

– Due to the closure of the outer lanes, it will be possible to continue straight ahead on one lane towards Széchenyi Street and turn left towards Hajdúszoboszló.

– For those arriving from Miklós Street, lane closures will also be in effect, with one lane of traffic passing through the intersection towards Szoboszlói út and no right turns towards Széchenyi Street.

– In the case of Külsővásártér, only the two end lanes will be available between Miklós and Arany János streets and the first 60 m of Postakert Street will be closed.

– Buses to the city centre will not stop at the Szoboszlói Road Primary School stop. Instead, passengers will be able to use the Erzsébet Street and Külsővásártér stops.

This is how the junction is being transformed

One of the elements of the transformation of the Szoboszlói Road junction is that on the 250-meter section from Salétrom Street to the intersection on Erzsébet Street, the road section marked by Main Road 4 will be the main direction, so that drivers will have to change lanes towards Külsővásártér. On Szoboszlói Road, on the 200-meter long section before the junction, an additional traffic lane will be created in place of the existing green lane on the right side of section number 4.

It is planned to extend the lane in front of the Primary School on Szoboszlói Road by 60 metres. In order to increase the permeability of the junction, a new right-turn lane will be built in the direction of Külsővásártér, 100 metres before Arany János Street, from the bus stop, to facilitate the movement of long-distance buses, and a new right-turn lane will be built 130 metres between Arany János and Széchenyi Streets.

The project is financed by public funds and the Budapest-based HE-DO Építő Zrt. won the contract with a gross bid of HUF 2.5 billion.
