Drinking water distribution will continue in downtown Debrecen during the heat alert
The national chief medical officer is extending the current level three heat alert until midnight on June 27 (Friday) for the entire country, so drinking water distribution will continue in Debrecen on Friday.
During the third-degree heat alert, the Municipality of Debrecen is once again helping city residents by distributing drinking water and operating vapour gates. Between June 24 and 27, volunteers of the Debrecen Charity Board will distribute water at three downtown locations, and cooling and humidifying equipment will also be operating at several places. The city encourages its residents to maintain a sufficient fluid intake, with a particular emphasis on children and older adults.
Given the third-degree heat alert, the Municipality of Debrecen is organising drinking water distribution at three frequented points in the city centre between June 24 and 27, on weekdays between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Volunteers of the Debrecen Charity Board will participate in the water distribution, providing drinking water to the passersby at the intersection of Hatvan Street and Kossuth Square (in front of the Nap Pharmacy), at the corner of Csapó Street and Dósa nádor Square, and in front of the Fórum Shopping Centre.
During the summer heat waves, prevention is essential, which is why the city of Debrecen is not only distributing water but also operating vapour gates at several points to relieve the heat. The humidifiers have been operating for weeks at Kossuth Square, Dósa nádor Square, Csonkatemplom (Reformed Small Church), Angyalföld Square in Tócóskert, and the Víztorony Promenade.
To alleviate the heat, increased care is also being taken to irrigate the city’s green areas. Public green areas are watered at dawn or late at night, and special attention is paid to the operation of automatic irrigation systems. Public drinking fountains and fountains are also operating continuously, helping to refresh.
The local government of Debrecen is asking its residents to pay special attention to children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with cardiovascular diseases. No one must leave home without water, and we should not forget about pets: we should also provide them with enough fresh drinking water on hot days.
