DSZC Students Win 15 Medals at Szakma Sztár Festival
Szakma Sztár Festival is a nationwide professional event organised annually by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, aimed at promoting vocational education.
Since its establishment, the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre (DSZC) has been represented at the festival on every occasion. As part of the event held at Hungexpo, the finals of Hungary’s most significant vocational student competitions take place, while visitors can gain a comprehensive insight into the practical aspects of various vocations and training opportunities. Students in technical schools competed in the National Professional Study Competition (OSZTV), while vocational school students took part in the Skilled Student of the Year Competition (SZKTV).
The festival also determined who will represent Hungary at the upcoming EuroSkills European Championship and the WorldSkills World Championship, and the event also hosted the JuniorSkills final. At the press event, 16 students received awards, including a female tiler.
Students from the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre stood on the top step of the podium in professions such as mechanical engineering technician, building services engineering technician, structural metalworker, and refrigeration and ventilation system installer. In addition, students training as IT systems and application operators, carpenters, and tilers also achieved medal-winning placements.
“When the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre was established, it set out a strategy based on growth, development and expansion. The past ten years of Debrecen have also been defined by these pillars, with new employers and economic actors arriving, opening up opportunities for workers and young people,” said Chancellor Zsolt Tirpák. He added that the city has always been one of the country’s intellectual centres and has now also become an economic hub where vocational education can truly demonstrate its value. “This is also proven by the fact that some of the country’s best performers at Szakma Sztár Festival came from our institution, as our young people returned home from Budapest with 15 medals. They are proof that one can become a ‘star’ and gain credibility through vocational training as well. However, this also requires dedicated and highly skilled teachers, whose commitment is exemplary. They are the ones who can inspire a thirst for knowledge in young people and help them realise their dreams,” he said.
“Debrecen is a city that helps everyone find what they are best at and acquire the knowledge needed to become competitive,” highlighted Mayor László Papp. He emphasised that over the past decade the city has opened up to the world, attracting some of the most innovative companies, meaning that students need the highest level of knowledge to meet expectations. “The cooperation between the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre and companies provides support in this regard. The outstanding results achieved at Szakma Sztár Festival confirm that the diligence and dedication of Debrecen’s students stand up at a national level,” he pointed out.
Sándor Szilágyi, Director General of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre, stated that it can be proudly said that their students have elevated both the county, Debrecen, and the vocational training centre to the national elite. “All of the young people set themselves goals, and along the way they received significant support from their teachers. The future of our city is ensured by this joint work: talented students and dedicated, well-trained educators who set an example for their peers,” he said, praising both students and teachers.
