DVSC Schaeffler handball team has set serious goals
The goal of the DVSC-Schaeffler handball team is to perform well and advance to the Champions League, to finish on the podium in the championship, and to reach the Final Four in the Hungarian Cup. The club held a season-opening information session, where they presented the new jerseys and welcomed the new sponsors.
The renovation of six locker rooms, the dining room, and the offices has just been completed in the Hódos Imre Conference Hall. Speaking about DVSC at the information session on Friday, László Papp stated that domestic and international successes have characterized the past period, saying that the team is characterized by continuous construction both in terms of sports and economic background. “The past 11 years have not been without difficulties, as there was the coronavirus pandemic and other economic difficulties and problems, but the economic background behind Debrecen handball and the supporters and sponsors has not diminished but has increased,” the mayor underlined.
The managing director of the naming sponsor, Schaeffler Debrecen Kft., Péter Szabó, spoke about starting the eighth year with the team. He said that they had been to many places in recent years, but in few places had he seen a circle of supporters who lived with the club, accompanying it to foreign matches, for example. “We would like to see continuous development in the team, and we have seen this in recent times. We are confident that we will take another step forward this year. We know that the Champions League is a double burden,” Péter Szabó emphasized.
“In the past two years, there have been serious problems in international women’s handball, with teams going bankrupt. In four years, DVSC has almost always scored the same number of points, which was enough for two bronze medals and two fourth places. After Győr and Ferencváros, Debrecen is the team with the most stable performance in the domestic championship,” the managing director of DVSC Kézilabda Kft., Zsolt Ábrók, said, adding that “This is a very stable economic background that we have, and the club model is definitely unique in Hungary within handball, but there are not many such communities in Europe. We are working and striving to continue building in this way in the coming years, and the team, the players, and the children only have to focus on handball.”
Speaking about the goals, Zsolt Ábrók said that they would like to do well in the Champions League; the goal is to advance. In the domestic championship, they will be fighting for third place in the domestic league, and in the Hungarian Cup, due to their Champions League participation, they only have to play one match to reach the Final Four. As DVSC is a seeded team, they cannot face FTC or Győr in this matchup. The information session featured the team’s new jerseys and welcomed new sponsors.
