Easter Changes to On-call Services, Parking, Timetables, Opening Hours, and Waste Collection
During the upcoming holiday period between Good Friday and Easter Monday, the availability of several key services will change in Debrecen.
It is important to note that Good Friday remains a public holiday, so all major shops and stores will be closed. However, Holy Saturday is not a public holiday, meaning shops will operate according to their usual Saturday opening hours. On Easter Sunday and Monday, only a limited number of smaller shops will be open for any last-minute purchases.
DV Parking Kft. recently announced that from March 2026, in addition to public holidays, parking will also be free in Debrecen on Easter Saturday and 24 December.
Those using public transport should also pay attention over Easter: according to DKV, on Friday 3 April, Sunday 5 April and Monday 6 April, buses, trolleybuses and trams will run according to the Sunday/holiday timetable. Auchan services will not operate on these days. On Saturday 4 April, services will run according to the Saturday timetable. Up-to-date timetable information is available on the www.dkv.hu website and via the myDKV and menetrend.app mobile applications.
Adult GP and emergency on-call services will be available from Good Friday to Easter Monday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre Emergency Clinic (98 Nagyerdei körút). Emergency care will also be available at the same location overnight, between 2 p.m. and 8 a.m. throughout the long weekend. Paediatric on-call services will be available during the holiday weekend between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre Paediatric Emergency Centre (Nagyerdei körút 98). The general on-call telephone number is 1830. Dental emergency services provided by the University of Debrecen will be available during the holidays between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on +36 30 186 68 63, or in person at 1 Pósa Street.
For pets, the Debrecen Municipal Veterinary On-Call Service can be contacted in the coming days on +36 30 565 9255, while information on veterinary on-call services across Hajdú-Bihar County is also available online.
According to AKSD Kft., waste collection continues on weekday public holidays and on rescheduled rest days, meaning that bins will still need to be put out on Easter Monday morning.
