Emerson launches a research and development project in Debrecen
“Despite the current, very unfavourable international environment, Hungarian-American economic and investment cooperation is a huge success, which is also greatly helped by the fact that a new golden age has dawned in the relations between the two countries,” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in Budapest on Wednesday. Announcing Emerson’s latest investment, the minister said that the American company specialising in industrial automation is expanding its centre of excellence in Székesfehérvár within the framework of a programme worth HUF 2.5 billion and is also launching a research and development project in Debrecen, which will focus on the development of automotive software and hardware products.
According to Szijjártó, the state is providing HUF half a billion in support for development, thus helping to create 56 new, highly skilled jobs.
He explained that where new technological developments are located, the main investments of the new industrial era will also be located, meaning that each R&D investment will bring new industrial capacities to Hungary. In his speech, he also pointed out that the government had signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Emerson, the fifteenth American company to do so, which means that only German companies are now ahead of the Americans, with sixteen having signed such agreements so far. He pointed out that Hungarian-American relations have experienced ups and downs in recent years, but this year, with the inauguration of President Donald Trump, a new era has begun in the relationship, which can now be best described as “friendship,” as the parties share a common view on the most important dilemmas facing the world, be it sovereignty, immigration, family support, or traditional values.
