EVE Power’s Debrecen plant to be built using environmentally friendly solutions

EVE Power announced in Debrecen in May 2023 that it would establish an industry-leading plant in the North-West Economic Belt. As a supplier to the BMW Group Debrecen plant, it will produce cylindrical battery cells for the new generation of electric cars. Environmentally conscious, efficient production is the cornerstone of EVE Power’s new plant, the company said. The energy density of the battery cells produced by EVE Power will be 20 percent higher, allowing them to increase the range of electric vehicles by 30 percent and reduce charging times by 30 percent.

EVE Power has submitted an IPPC application to the Hajdú-Bihar County Government Office, aiming to meet Debrecen’s highest effluent discharge standards for processed wastewater. The company plans to use grey water and develop an advanced wastewater recycling system for efficient resource use.

EVE Power is focusing on environmental efforts and operational efficiency in e-mobility industries by installing an intelligent building monitoring system and energy management system. They will develop low-energy processes using high-efficiency motors, transformers, and inverters, and build a solar farm to reduce grid electricity consumption.

In August 2024, EVE Power signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Debrecen and Wuhan University to explore the possibility of launching joint lithium-ion battery research programmes. The aim of the partnership is, among other things, to support students’ R&D projects with hands-on experience and to provide unique internship opportunities for students of chemistry, physics and engineering, for example.

“Today, environmentally conscious, efficient production is essential in a high-tech factory and we are committed to building our Debrecen plant with this in mind,” Senior Vice President of EVE Power, Alexander Holden said. “We look forward to working with the local community and our partners to bring our innovative thinking to new opportunities for the entire region.”

The EVE group has also set up a Sustainability Committee to ensure that its professionals develop methods at management level that prioritise environmental and social sustainability. The company and all its employees adhere to the “EVE Code of Business and Conduct”, which covers all aspects of laws and regulations, business ethics and transparency.

EVE Power has started recruiting new colleagues and plans to hire more than 1,000 employees in total, with a primary focus on Hungarian employees. According to the plans, 60 new colleagues are expected to be hired in 2024, around 100 in 2025, more than 550 in 2026, and nearly 300 in 2027.

About EVE Power Hungary Ltd.

Founded in 2012, EVE Power is a subsidiary of EVE Energy, one of the world’s top ten battery companies.  The company has 14 production units and sales offices around the world, with strategic partners in Germany, the USA, Malaysia and Singapore. EVE’s founder, Dr. Liu Jincheng, is a committed research and development advocate who sticks to the company’s vision “To be the most creative lithium battery company and make an outstanding contribution to sustainable development”. This is demonstrated by the fact that the company’s research facility covers 230,000 square metres and more than 5,400 senior researchers in 5 research centres are working on the development of innovative, environmentally conscious technology. As a sign of this, the company already holds more than 7,500 patents and its products are already found in a significant proportion of Hungarian households.
