Once a year, on this day, lovers of artisanal hamburgers meet in Debrecen, at the 5th anniversary event, when Debrecen will be the burger capital for a day! 

Hamburgers, steaks, barbecue dishes, concerts, bullfights, craft beers, demonstrations, performances and a national competition for the title of Burger of the Country and a steak-frying battle under the shady trees of the Great Forest await you on September 20!

Anyone who loves burgers and quality meats, whether as a participant or a spectator, is in the right place here.

In September, it will turn out who the master is who creates the burger of the country. The professional competition is a competition for serious prize money, valuable gifts and of course the traveling cup.

Szaft ’N Burger is not only an all-day picnic, but also a serious professional competition, where the winner of the professional category will take home the title of Burger of the Country for 1 year!

The idea of the event was conceived by a nearby family farm, Hortobágy Angus, who in recent years have raised the quality of Hungarian beef to a high level due to their strict principles and their own breeding. One of their main products, the premium Angus burger, serves as the basis for the competitors, but these will also be used to make better than good hamburgers in 5 places, which the general public can also taste.

The competition will have both professional and amateur categories, but young people will also try their hand at the junior category and many teams have already signed up for the friendly gastro picnic. Those who would like to try something other than hamburgers can also take part in the steak competition, where this year the most perfect steak must be made from Angus tenderloin.

Friendly, corporate and family teams are also invited to participate in the competition, but everyone can compete in individual, amateur, freestyle (anything that is not beef), and junior categories. In addition, participants can even compete in the steak category on the grill.

The best amateur burger maker from Debrecen will serve the Debrecen city burger, which, according to the plans – linked to a charitable cause – will hopefully be available in Debrecen gastropubs.

The professional patron of the event is gastroblogger Jani Jancsa, the professional manager of Bamba Marha Burger Bar, while the professional jury will be led by Dani Zákány, the founder of the Debrecen Grillacademy.

At the event, professionals will give burger and grilling lessons, there will be a live music program, you can taste delicious homemade beers and of course hamburger and barbecue delicacies.
