Art lovers are warmly invited to the opening of /formatíva, a solo exhibition by Debrecen-born visual artist Zsófia Antalka, on 19 March at 5.30 pm at MODEM’s Project Space. The exhibition will be opened by Anna Keszeg, PhD, cultural researcher and lecturer at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME).
On view from 20 March to 24 May 2026, /formatíva explores how form comes into being and how the creative process itself can become a work of art. For years, Zsófia Antalka has worked with techniques evoking pre-industrial craftsmanship, creating intricate bead curtains in both small and large formats. While her earlier works examined the tensions between art and mass production, as well as themes of femininity and bodily identity, this new exhibition shifts the focus towards the act of creation itself.
At the heart of the show is Éberség (I–II.) (“Vigilance”), a two-part work whose second component will be realised as a performative installation in the presence of visitors. Over the course of approximately six weeks, audiences will witness the intense, highly concentrated manual process through which the bead curtain takes shape—becoming not merely observers, but participants in the artwork’s creation.
Throughout the exhibition, the Project Space transforms into an active workspace, revealing preparatory notes, numbered sketches and colour-coded plans that trace the inseparable abstract and figurative phases of artistic development. Curated by Marcell Hocza-Szabó, /formatíva offers a compelling reflection on identity, labour and the evolving nature of art itself.
Admission is free.
