The Bíró Lajos Art Foundation is organizing a memorial exhibition to honor the legacy of the renowned Hungarian painter Lajos Bíró (1927–2010), marking the 15th anniversary of his passing.

The exhibition pays tribute to Bíró’s remarkable artistic career and enduring influence on Hungarian visual culture. Known for his expressive style, Bíró’s work continues to inspire generations of artists and art lovers alike.

The event will showcase a curated selection of his most significant pieces, offering visitors a chance to reflect on the life and vision of a master whose contributions remain vital to Hungary’s artistic heritage.

A highlight of the event is the presentation of the Bíró Lajos Art Award, which this year will be awarded to the Budapest painter, Szász Tünde. The award was founded three years ago by family, friends and colleagues, and its goal is to recognize and support young artists.

The opening of the exhibition is expected on September 12 at 5.00 p.m. at the New Gallery in Debrecen.

Bíró’s art, known for its expressive use of oil pastels, landscapes,  often depicts scenes from rural life, emotional depth, blending realism with symbolic undertones.

Lajos Bíró’s emblematic synthetic oil paintings, as well as his pastel portraits and self-portraits, will also be on display at the event.

Interested parties are warmly invited to attend this special exhibition and celebrate the legacy of Lajos Bíró.

The exhibition will be open until October 5, every day – except Mondays-  between 3 and 5 p.m.
