Border Age – Exhibition by Zoltán Fátyol and István Tamus

MODEM art center 1-3 Hunyadi János Street, Debrecen

The exhibition Border Age celebrates the 70th birthdays of two artists from Debrecen, visual artist Zoltán Fátyol and graphic artist István Tamus, by bringing together works from the advanced stages of their careers. “Border age” refers to a period marking a complex transition process between eras that have gained stability based on their own order as well as a transition that forms a bridge between the past, which is considered to be outdated, and the future, with a gesture of moving forward. This exhibition of major local artists at MODEM is not intended to be a complete overview of their oeuvres, but it aims to provide insight into the dominant themes, motifs and technical experiments that have defined the careers of these two artists, who have different temperaments. Exhibition leading visitors to a strange world opened

Kölcsey Center Bethlen u., 4026, Debrecen

The Bényi Gallery prepared the next exhibition season during the holidays, so in January, the works of Emese Bács, a creator well known for her unvarnished honesty, will be displayed on the gallery's walls and exhibition space. The exhibition titled ‘Silently observing, subjectively forming ... ’ was opened on the 18th of January at 6 pm in the Kölcsey Center, where the artist and the guests were greeted by Art Writer Réka Fazakas and Gallery Manager Andrea Szalai. ‘The exhibition titled ‘Silently observing, subjectively forming ... ’, located in the exhibition space of the Bényi Gallery in Debrecen, leads to a strange world. Some of the urban spaces that can be seen in the paintings of Emese Bács are clearly connected to the artist's chosen homeland, Budapest, or her hometown, in Brasov Transylvania. The figures she depicts become more important than depicting urban locations, skylines or Marc Augé's so-called non-places, temporary locations connected to public transport. The figures always reflect characteristic, often stale states of being, age imprints, since they are not individuals, but typical types of people who are often lonely, immersed in their own virtual world. ‘Emese Bács always carefully observes the figures waiting or sitting on the […]

Exhibition of works by art teachers in Tócóskert

Medgyessy Ferenc Gimnázium Holló László stny. 6, Debrecen

An exhibition of works by art teachers from Debrecen will open soon in Tócóskert. The title is peculiar, but the location is familiar. The exhibition opens on the 9th of February and will run until the end of the month, the 29th of  February. As Károly Szabó, the art teacher of the Medgyessy High School, tells there is a bit of playfulness and, of course, information in the title of the exhibition opening in the  Medgyessy High School’s  Gallery at Angyalföld Square 7, which looks like this: 24209229. The first two digits are the year, followed by the month and the day.  The event is important for students and teachers alike. As the head of the institution, József Fekete, recalls, several projects have already been launched in the past in the spirit of ‘Master and Disciple’, and this kind of spirit will be present here too, although this time the exhibition space will be filled with the works of the art teachers.  In the case of the works, both colleagues and students have tried not to stop where the work is born, but to give the visitor more information, which brings them closer to the birth and interpretation of the […]

Exhibition “The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image” opens in MODEM

MODEM art center 1-3 Hunyadi János Street, Debrecen

MODEM's latest exhibition titled "The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image" opens on the 9th of February. The exhibition presents a comprehensive selection of monochrome paintings from the Antal–Lusztig collection, which is one of the most important private collections in Hungary. The owner of the collection, which includes hundreds of domestic and international works, dr. Péter Antal started buying monochrome paintings in the mid-2000s, which have since formed an important segment of his collection. In the past decades, we have seen a small or large selection of monochrome works at numerous domestic and foreign exhibitions. Among other things, the importance of these exhibitions is given by the fact that, thanks to this exceptional collector's commitment, the spirit and heritage of monochrome painting lives on not only in individual works of art, along the lines of consistent creative endeavours, but also emerges from time to time in the public discourse on the occasion of exhibitions selected from the Antal–Lusztig collection. This time, a selection exhibition from the monochrome segment of the Antal–Lusztig collection, organised into 7+1 separate units, guides the visitor. Through the research of monochrome painters, it guides you through concepts of painting that are thought to be obvious, […]
