Free Gospel Concert of László Fassang and Saint Ephraim Male Choir at Debrecen Reformed University Church

A gospel concert awaits guests on the 23rd of May in Debrecen Reformed University Church  from 7.00 p.m.  The concert is free to attend, but advance registration is required. To register, email egyetemitemplom@reformatus.hu. Gospel is a distinctive expression of the vernacular sacred vocal tradition in Western culture, as much at home in worship settings and personal confessions of faith as on concert halls and festival stages. Debrecen English-Language Drama Festival

The  English-language drama festival, a weekend of electrifying theatrical performances of high school and university troupes from across Hungary, will take place on the 24th and 25th of May. Concert of the 100-member Gypsy Orchestra Mission in the Great Reformed Church

The third stop of the church concert series of the world-famous orchestra, the 100-member Gypsy Orchestra Mission will be in the Great Reformed Church of Debrecen on the 25th of May, from 6.00 p.m.  The art of the 100 Member Gypsy Orchestra is priceless. It is a true Hungaricum, unique and Hungarian. At the Mission concert, the audience can meet the chamber orchestra, where they can hear mainly classical, symphonic pieces, such as Back Air or Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody II, but also sacred pieces by Schubert and Gounod. Since its foundation, the orchestra has given more than a thousand concerts, from the culture hall of the smallest town in the country to many famous concert halls around the world. Djabe Performs in Debrecen with a World Star Guitarist

The tour with Chieli Minucci is called Tour of Waterfalls, as both Djabe and Chieli have a Waterfall composition. The opening act at the concert will be Android from Debrecen, who will play from their new album Worldless Scriptum. The concert in Debrecen will take place on the 25th of May at the Liszt Hall of the Faculty of Music at the University of Debrecen, starting at 7.00 p.m. Guitarist Chieli Minucci is a founding member and still the leader of the world-famous American jazz/funk/world group Special EFX, which was formed in the early 1980s. Special EFX was one of the most prominent bands on the overseas jazz scene in the eighties and nineties, and is still a prominent participant today, with several Grammy nominations to their name. Djabe is the number one representative of the Hungarian jazz/world fusion genre. He has won numerous national and international awards. Free safari for children under 18 on Children’s Day at Hortobágy Wildlife Park

Hortobágy Wildlife Park's "extra" program is a 20-25-minute program, where visitors can see wild horses and ancient bullocks up close from an SUV vehicle.  The price of the program is  free for children under 18 on this day, 2,500 HUF/person for adults.  The program is available all day, the intention to participate in it needs to be indicated separately at Vadló buffet located within the Wildlife Park area. Please note that the extra safari is weather dependent. Niccolò Paganini, known as the devil's violinist, was a significant violin virtuoso of the early 19th century Romantic period. He composed his first sonata at nine and became the most virtuoso violinist in Europe. His work influenced Brahms, Liszt, and Schumann, with his compositions serving as a model for Liszt's piano virtuosity. His compositions remain a permanent feature of violinists' repertoire. Interactive Presentation on American Children and Young Adult Literature at American Corner Debrecen

What is “kidlit”? What are the borders of children’s literature and who is the target audience? What is the difference between a young adult and a child? How are such literary works approached in academia? To learn the answers to these questions (and perhaps give your own take on them), interested guests can join for this month’s interactive presentation at American Corner Debrecen. The session will look at past and current trends and genres in American children’s and young adult fiction, explore how popular books for adults influence works for a younger audience, and embrace our inner children while the novels that played a crucial part in our childhood are discussed. The event will be led by György Kiss, a PhD candidate at the Institute of English and American Studies, UD, who is an avid reader and researcher of children’s and young adult literature. Free Gala Evening of Violinist Zoltán Mága in the Heart of Debrecen

Liszt-Ferenc Prize-winning violinist Zoltán Mága invites you on a special musical journey to Kossuth Square in Debrecen, where he will recall the defining moments of his career. The charity gala, which starts on Saturday, the 1st of June at 7:00 p.m., will feature the world-famous violin virtuoso, as well as acting legends, internationally renowned opera singers and prominent artists from the Hungarian popular music scene.Among others, Gyula Bodrogi, Ági Voith, Sándor Csikos, Margit Bangó, Eszter Sümegi and Levente Molnár will be on stage.  The violinist celebrated his 50th birthday in February this year, and to mark the occasion he has announced a series of “50 years 50 concerts” for 2024, which will take him all over the country. Recently, the musician celebrated his 50th birthday with a concert in the MVM Dome in Budapest, which attracted around 500 performers and contributors.
