The Secrets of the Botanical Garden tour

During the Botanical Garden tour, visitors  can admire the flowers that are currently blooming, wander the paths, most of which were made in the first half of the 20th century, under the leadership of botanist Rezső Soó.  Passing by the statue  Mihály Fazekas and Sámuel Diószegi it is relieved how many new plant names were created  thanks to the authors of the Hungarian Herbal Book. For the 45-minute forest walk program suitable clothing is recommended. In case of bad weather, visitors can listen to a lecture on the subject. The tickets for the Botanical Garden tour can be purchased at Agora Science Center, the ticket is valid for the other programmes of Agora as well. In addition, at Agora ticket office between October 11 and 14  during opening hours, worksheets prepared by the experts of Agora in Hungarian and English can be picked up for free, with the help of which visitors can explore the 15.5-hectare Botanical Garden of the University of Debrecen in a playful way. Games Studies Conference

Games and Language is a Hungarian-English bilingual and hybrid event to be held on 20-21 October 2023 at the University of Debrecen. The conference is intended to provide room for productive conversation in the Hungarian, regional and international scholarly community working with both table-top and video games of all genres within the field of humanities and social sciences, with a special focus on the language of games, language in games and the intersections between language and game studies. Saint Dömötör Day Herding Festival at Hortobágy

This year as well, the Herding Festival is organised in Hortobágy at a new location, in the area of the Máta Herd (Mátai Ménes). In Hortobágy, following the traditions of the old folk customs, both the shepherds and their livestock prepare for the winter and the animals are driven from the desert pastures to their winter accommodation. Those who come to the event can meet up close the shepherds' animals - Hungarian racka sheep, nonius horses, four-ox buffalo herds, and six-ox Hungarian gray cattle herds, which parade in front of visitors in the company of the shepherds, colts and cattle herders. During the day-long event, there will be a craft fair, shepherd's dishes cooked in a cauldron, and within the framework of the Crane Festival program of the Hortobágy National Park Administration nature science games and craft activities await everyone. At the event, the tradition of lighting the Shepherd's Bonfire, which was revived last year, will be held again this year, with which the shepherds say goodbye to the grazing season. Hungarian Republic Day – 23 October

Since October 23, 1989, this significant day has been a double national holiday in Hungary: the day of the outbreak of the revolution in 1956 and the day of the proclamation of the Hungarian Republic in 1989. The Hungarian Republic Day is celebrated and commemorated by various events, including wreath-laying ceremonies, memorial services, cultural programs, and historical exhibitions commemorate this day The Hungarian national flag, with its tricolor of red, white, and green, is prominently displayed during the celebrations. Red symbolizes valor, white stands for freedom, and green represents hope. Behind-the-scenes Tours at Csokonai Theatre

Theatre visits will continue in the second half of October in the newly renovated Csokonai Theatre.  The behind-the-scenes tours held several times every afternoon are led by actors. Visitors are taken to parts of the theatre that are closed off from the public and are real theatre treats: the dressing rooms, the stage, the set storage, the artists' buffet, the orchestra pit and, last but not least, the floors of the revolving stage.  On October 26th those visitors who would like to hear interesting facts about the Theater building in English are also welcome, as the soloist of the newly formed dance department, Fernando Gabriel Luis, will lead the interested parties on this occasion. Pearls 1 – Concert of Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra

The Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra's chamber orchestra concert is conducted by the ensemble's permanent conductor, Tibor Bényi  in the synagogue on Pásti Street on 28th October from 7 p.m. The best-known work of Franz Schubert's chamber music oeuvre is probably the piano quintet in A major called "The Trout". The reason for using the distinctive name was the fourth movement, which is none other than a series of variations composed on the theme of his previous song (Die Forelle). By the way, the composer also composed instrumental versions for four other songs. In his score for the Pisztárng quintet, made in 1819, Schubert does not use the usual formation of two violins, viola, accordion, and piano, but abandons the part of the second violin and enriches the bass by using the double bass. (Incidentally, one of Johann Nepomuk Hummel's works provided a sample for this solution.) The order of movements of the nearly forty-minute work also differs from the usual one, in that the titular series of variations is added to the classic (fast-slow-dance-movement-finale) pattern  almost as an extension.
