Famous French Caricaturist’s Exhibition at Mélisz Library
Méliusz Library Bem tér 19/D, Debrecen, HungaryAfter Budapest and Miskolc, the works of Plantu, the famous French caricaturist and "travelling ambassador of the pencil" can be seen in Debrecen as well at Méliusz Juhász Péter Library. 20 March is the International Day of La Francophonie, celebrated every year with a wide range of cultural events around the world. It aims to promote the French language and culture. Hungary has been an observer member of the International Organisation of La Francophonie since 2004. The exhibition "Freedom of Expression as a Public Good" is the first event in the series of events of the Festival of Francophonie in Debrecen 2024. The exhibition was opened by Claire Legras, Ambassador of France to Hungary, and attended by István Puskás, Deputy Mayor of Hungary. For 50 years, from 1972 to 2021, Jean Plantureux, under pseudonym Plantu, published his drawings on the cover of Le Monde. He is also co-founder of the NGO Cartooning for Peace, which works to promote respect for cultures and freedom. His cartoons on political, social, ecological, economic, international and domestic news are appreciated by politicians around the world and the French public alike.
