Special Exhibition of Debrecen Carver, Sándor Szabó Réti at DEMKI (Tímárház)

  Several of Sándor Szabó Réti's works can be seen  at the exhibition entitled ‘A Tale Woven from Light’. A special world built from wood, colours and Hungarian folk culture will be revealed to those who visit the DEMKI House (Tímárház) between the 18th of January and the 10th of February, 2024. ‘The Day of Hungarian Culture will be on the 22nd of January and I was invited to this exhibition in connection with this. I collected my previous works, which are wooden, carved, painted sets and altars  from various public institutions and private individuals. On the one hand, the colours are the different reflections and refractions of light, and on the other hand, the world of motifs visible in the works is drawn from Hungarian folk tales and their lessons, ’ he said. Among other things, the movable puppet wall of the puppet group Báb-Kincs-Tár from Létavértes and the scenery of the Aranyszalma Folk Dance Ensemble from Hajdúnánás will also be on display at the exhibition. In addition to these, two smaller, relief-carved and painted wing altars can be viewed, which were  offered by private individuals for the duration of the exhibition. Night of Ice Rinks

‘This Saturday on the 20th of January, as always since 2016, the Hungarian Ice Hockey Association (MJSZ) will organise the Ice Rink Night,’ MTI (Hungarian Telegraph Office) wrote. Day of Hungarian Culture

January 22nd is the official Day of Hungarian Culture, dedicated to celebrating the written literature and poetry of Hungary, as well as honoring its renowned writers and poets. On this significant day in Hungarian literary history, the famous Hungarian poet Ferenc Kölcsey completed the manuscript of the Hungarian National Anthem in 1823. Since 1989, this date has been observed as a celebration of Hungarian culture, both within Hungary and abroad. The year 2023 marked a special anniversary as it commemorated exactly 200 years since the creation of the National Anthem. Typically, various programs and thematic exhibitions take place at venues such as the Déri Museum, New Town Hall - Csokonai Fórum, Reformed Great Church, DEMKI, and others, allowing people to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Hungary.

Day of Hungarian Culture in Csokonai Theatre

The city of Debrecen and the Csokonai National Theater are celebrating the day of Hungarian Culture with a special announcement in 2024. In the evening, they pay tribute to Ferenc Kölcsey, the poet of the National Anthem, with three performances on the 22nd of  January. That evening, the Debrecen theatre pays tribute to Ferenc Kölcsey, the poet of the reform era, with three performances. From 6:00 p.m. the dance performance "Towards wholeness" can be seen in the Zoltán Latinovits Hall of the Csokonai Forum.  The PR-Evolution Debrecen Contemporary Dance Ensemble celebrates its 20th anniversary with this piece, inspired by Sándor Weöres' work of the same name that raises an eternally actual question revealing the existential restlessness of the speck of dust thrown into the world. Exhibition of Fanni Bacskó

Debrecen Zoo opens the year with a Family Day

DVSC legends and Kowalsky and the Vega band are organising a charity soccer gala again in Debrecen

The entire taking of the event will be donated to the Szivárvány az Esőben (Rainbow in the Rain)  Foundation, which helps families in need. Jazz For You – Carnival Concert under the Enchantment of Jazz

The Steve Jazz Trio is made up of three teachers from the jazz department of the Béla Bartók High School of Music and Dance in Miskolc, who although excel primarily in the jazz genre, are also at home in the field of classical music. Pianist István Bundzik is a member and founder of several jazz formations: Fusio, Junior Art Quartett, Miskolc Dixieland Band, Click Jazz Band, and he tours the world's stages as a permanent piano accompanist of violinist Katica Illényi. Bass player Gyula Horváth, in addition to playing in symphonic and chamber orchestras, is a fan of the jazz genre, so the audience can recognize him mainly from such musical formations. Jazz drummer Gábor Kacsenyák does not stick to a single musical genre either, in addition to running a private drumming school, he also teaches classical percussion in several institutions, and appears on domestic stages in several light music ensembles. The 22nd Masquerade event at Vojtina Puppet Theatre lasts six days

In the special program series, the Theatre shows how winter was once driven away with centuries-old folk traditions and fair comedy. At the event, King Konc, symbolising the carnival, and Voivode Cibere, the symbol of fasting, will clash but visitors can also meet masquerades such as the counting goat, the dancing bear and the carnival bride.
