MODEM Art Center awaits visitors to join the English guided tour with Krisztián Gábor Török  at the exhibition titled The Image of Color, the Mystery of Image on the 23rd of April at 5:00 p.m.  About the exhibition: The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image, presents a comprehensive selection of monochrome paintings from the Antal-Lusztig Collection. This collection is recognised as one of the most significant private collections in Hungary, and a major group of works from it have been deposited in the museums of Debrecen. Focusing on the tradition of exhibiting works from the Antal-Lusztig Collection, this selection comprises several hundred national and international works. Dr. Péter Antal, the owner, began his acquisition of monochrome paintings in the mid-2000s, and the collection of more than five hundred works constitutes a separate segment of his collection. Over the past decades, a selection of these monochrome works has been featured in several exhibitions in Hungary and abroad. An exhibition of students of the DSZC Creative Technical School opens in Újkert

An exhibition titled “Brilliant Mother Nature” on the theme of sustainability by students of the Creative Technology Centre of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre will open in the lobby gallery of the DEMKI Community House in Újkert. The exhibition will be opened by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Matúra és Natúra Foundation, Head of the Debrecen Natural History Museum Zoltán Váradi on the 26th of April at 2.00 p.m. with a welcome speech by Managing Director of DEMKI János D. Halász, and Director of the DSZC Creative Technology Centre Enikő Kovácsné Győrfi. The opening will be attended by students of the institution. The exhibition is open until the 26th of May during the opening hours of the community centre. Screening of Dracula (1931) in English at Apollo Cinema

Within Retro Day programmes, jointly organised by Vojtina Puppet Theatre and Apollo Cinema to mark Debrecen’s no longer operating Uránia Cinema, founded in 1914, the English language film with Hungarian subtitles, Dracula (1931, 75 min) will be screened at Apollo Cinema on the 24th of April from 7.00 p.m. Since 2001, one of the city's most popular institutions, the Vojtina Puppet Theatre, has been operating in the building of the former Uránia Cinema, which changed its name twice; it was first known as Hungária and then Film Museum. Before the screening, Deputy Mayor Dr. István Puskás and Director of Vojtina Puppet Theatre Anikó Asbóth greet the audience. An accompanying film will be shown before the film Dracula! which is a two-and-a-half-minute segment from the film recorded in 1913, one year after the opening of the Apollo cinema and 1 year before the opening of Uránia. A presentation will be given on the interesting features and significance of the accompanying film by Local history researcher at the Architectural Archives Dr. Péter Horváth. Play “Devils”of F. M. Dostoevsky with English subtitles at Csokonai Theatre

Csokonai National Theater is preparing for another performance. The play by one of the greatest writers of world literature, Dostoevsky, "Devils" with English subtitles can be seen at Csokonai Theatre.  Forthcoming performance days with English subtitles: 26 April - Premiere, 30 April, 2 May, 7 May, 22 May About the play: Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, a renowned Russian writer, referred to his country's social processes as nihilistic, rejecting traditional traditions. The play, directed by Dejan Projkovski, explores the mystery of the human soul and the role of the 'five carriage' in societal change. Projkovski questions whether individuals can become murderous bloodsuckers through misinterpretation of ideas, ultimately revealing the possibility of recapturing the angel in man through a journey through the heart and soul. Saint George’s Day Livestock Drive-Out Festival at Hortobágy

The all day long Livestock Drive-Out Festival awaits visitors with various programmes on the 27th of April. Exhibition “Pictures literally” opens on the 27th of April

In addition to his civil work, the exhibition "Pictures literally" of a family father from Hajdúböszörmény, who is engaged in many creative activities, opens on the 27th of April. The exhibition of Zsolt Böszörményi Kovács will be opened by Szilvia Szilágyi in Elméleti Tömb (Life Sciences Gallery of the University of Debrecen) at 3:00 p.m. with the collaboration of Valahány band. The artist tries to create completely unique, modern images to show proportion, beauty and dynamism in the images, all through improvisation. Some images are dominated by exciting structure and detail, others by composition and sometimes both. His aim is to make the images 'fun to look at', to give a positive, at most disturbing, but not negative experience. The exhibition is open until the 23rd of May. Family and Health Day at Liget Square

Tango Opera, María De Buenos Aires at Csokonai Fórum

The unique tango opera, María De Buenos Aires takes the audience into the South American night with a story rich in emotion and action. About the performance: María De Buenos Aires, a tango opera by Astor Piazzolla, is a classic tale about a girl who lives by night and is tango personified. She becomes a prostitute, falls in love, and is murdered. Despite her rebirth and becoming a parent, she is still best described as 'born on a day when God was drunk'. Exhibition Titled “Dragons live here“ Opens on the 28th of April

Anna Versényi’s exhibition Mappa Mundi  "Dragons live here" will be opened on the 28th of  April at 11:00 a.m. by poet and art critic János Áfra with flutist Lilla Magyari accompanying the event. Her literary career started in the eighties, she has published several volumes, but she has  constantly been  interested in the world of images as well. Apart from the works of the creative artist, she can be seen this weekend at the Elméleti Tömb (Theoretical Gallery). The images on display are graphics related to the concept of the world map. It shows the desire for inhabitable worlds, the fear of the unknown, the interpretation of our world. The artist is exhibiting a series of 28 pieces, the motto of which is the inscription of a mediaeval map, and also the title of one of the graphics. Main season opening day of Debrecen Zoo on the 1st of May

On the 1st of May, it will be 66 years since Debrecen Zoo opened its gates, and to mark the occasion they invite visitors to join for a celebration.
