The work, based on a mediaeval text, has twelve short movements with colourful transitions between gloomy, light, and frivolous characters. Easter in Debrecen

Easter is an important and widely celebrated holiday in Hungary, deeply rooted in both religious traditions and folklore. The holiday typically falls on a Sunday between late March and early April, depending on the lunar calendar, and it marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ for Christians. Easter Sunday is the most significant day of the Easter celebrations in Hungary. Many Hungarians attend church services to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The week leading up to Easter Sunday, known as Holy Week, is a time of reflection and religious observance. Special church services and processions are held during this period. In Hungary, Easter Monday is known as "Húsvéthétfő" or "Ducking Monday" (locally called "Vízbevető"). It is a unique Hungarian tradition where boys playfully sprinkle or even "duck" girls with water, often accompanied by a light verse or rhyme. In return, girls may offer decorated eggs or treats to the boys. This custom symbolizes the cleansing and renewal of life associated with spring. The holiday provides an opportunity for families to come together, enjoy special meals, exchange Easter eggs, and participate in the joyful spirit of the season.

Exhibition entitled Impulses in DEMKI Youth House Gallery opens on 3 April

Gallery 21

Sára Hajdu will open an exhibition entitled Impulses and hold a literary evening on Wednesday, on the 3rd of April 4:30 p.m. in gallery room  21 of DEMKI Youth House Gallery. Sára Hajdu came into closer contact with painting a few years ago, before that she wrote poems for almost a decade. “Any form of creation is a kind of therapy, a journey around our soul, when everything else ceases, the heart also quiets down, and a kind of tingling excitement takes the place of the noise of everyday life. I have always been attracted to abstract art, my favourite is Salvador Dali. Each work is new and brings new excitement, for me this is the greatest inspiration,” Sára Hajdu says. Managing director of DEMKI János D. Halász will give a welcome speech at the event. Deputy Mayor István Puskás opens the exhibition with the  contribution of Katedra Theater Workshop. Since Galéria 21 is also an event hall, please call (36) 52 415 48 to find out exactly when the exhibition can be visited. Wonders of Debrecen in photos and paintings

Approaching the city day, photographer for the Wonders of Debrecen page Péter Károlyi, and painter Adrienn Nagy will exhibit their works in a joint exhibition on the 4th of April at Benedek Elek Library. Adrienn was very impressed by Péter's photos, and Péter says that it is a great honour for him that the painter was "inspired by his photos and, as a result, creates beautiful paintings of the city". The first picture, based on Péter's photo, depicts the Small Reformed Church, and the original photo will still be on display at the exhibition. The joint exhibition will be the 19th in sequence on Adrienn Nagy's career, but she is waiting for it just as enthusiastically as Péter, who is also happy because this is the first exhibition at which the Debrecen Wonders page will debut its photos. For Adrienn it is a great pleasure  that since her friends see the city again in my paintings, according to their own admission, they walk the streets much more attentively. Péter says although they boast more than 47,000 followers, many do not know who took the photos. This anonymity is now removed, and you can get to know me, the person behind […]
