Exhibits by Talented Students Open at New City Hall

Two exhibitions, titled “Dream Forest” and ”Tableaux of Furniture History” opened at Debrecen’s New City Hall on February 17, 2026.

In June 2025, the Public Foundation for Talented Young People of Debrecen announced a call for applications to support the implementation of projects by talented students, with the aim of assisting exceptionally gifted young people, supporting their secondary school studies and professional development, and contributing to the enrichment of the city’s vocational training system and the quality of grammar school education.

A further objective of the call was to draw attention to the importance of mentoring young people and to promote mentoring activities. A total of 28 applications were submitted to the foundation’s call, of which the board of trustees selected and supported the 10 most outstanding. The funding was made possible thanks to the charitable proceeds of the Debrecen City Ball, organized by the Municipality of Debrecen, the University of Debrecen, and the Hajdú-Bihar County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which together offered HUF 10 million for charitable purposes to support the implementation of project plans by talented students from Debrecen.

Thanks to the grant, Anna Horváth, a 13th-grade student of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre Creative Technical School, and Tamás Fodor, a 9th-grade student of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre School of Construction Technology and Engineering, are presenting their work at the New City Hall Gallery in the form of individual tableau exhibitions.

At the exhibition opening, Deputy Mayor István Puskás emphasized that the two showcased projects were created as part of a citywide collaborative initiative launched last year, and that tomorrow all awarded projects would be presented at the Csokonai Fórum. He noted that the two exhibitions on display at the New City Hall are part of a project that included the commitment to organize exhibitions, but within the scholarship program a theatrical production and a short film were also created.

The city leader recalled that for four years now, the New City Hall has regularly hosted exhibitions introducing visitors to Debrecen’s identity, local creators, and the cultural values of the city. “Our goal was for the citizens of Debrecen who come to the town hall for administrative matters to encounter the values of Debrecen—not only the treasures of the past and traditions, but also young talents,” he underlined.

The exhibitions titled “Dream Forest” and ”Tableaux of Furniture History” can be visited during opening hours until February 25, 2026.

The talented students’ program series continues tomorrow. At 2:00 p.m., there will be a project presentation at the Csokonai Forum; at 4:00 p.m., the premiere of the musical play “Tomorrow Is Still Waiting for You”; and at 6:00 p.m., two award-winning short films will be screened at Apolló Cinema.
