A delegation from the University of Debrecen also welcomed the Tianjin Foreign Language University (TFSU), celebrating its 60th anniversary in China. During the visit, the leaders of the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the launch of Chinese education in Debrecen, in addition, the Partnership Association of Confucius Institutes created by TFSU was established with the participation of the University of Debrecen.

The delegation from Debrecen spent eventful days in China at the end of September, led by rector of the University of Debrecen Zoltán Szilvássy, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Róbert Keményfi, whom were accompanied on the  journey by he Hungarian Director of the Confucius Institute of the University of Debrecen Pál Csontos, and also the secretary of the institute Erik László Kovács.

Prior to the grand jubilee celebration of TFSU, the Confucius Institutes Partnership Association (CIPA) was officially established at the initiative of the Chinese University, with the participation of the University of Debrecen, Hebei University of Chinese Medicine (China), Jorge Tadeo Lozano University (Colombia), Omar Bongo University (Gabon), Soonchunhyang University (South Korea), Tianjin Foreign Language University (China), the Federal University of Goias (Brazil) and the University of Lisbon (Portugal). The alliance will function as a small sub-network of the World Network of Confucius Institutes to promote mutual cooperation and development.

The delegation of the University of Debrecen was received by the President of TFSU Li Yingying,to whom Róbert Keményfi thanked for the support provided for the establishment and operation of the Confucius Institute in Debrecen. The institute will soon celebrate its fifth anniversary, the head of the delegation handed over an invitation to the event to the President of the University of Tianjin, who promised to visit the institute in Debrecen.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Dean Róbert Keményfi presented the University of Debrecen’s award for outstanding support to the establishment of the Confucius Institute to the retired President of TFSU Chen Fachun.

During their time in Tianjin, the delegation had the opportunity to visit the Hungarian Department of the University, where the delegation was welcomed by Head of Department  Ma Xiaoxuan – known in Hungarian as Viki – and Deputy Head of Department Hu Miao – Alma -, and who also met with the Hungarian students studying there.

The course was approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2016 and started teaching in September 2017. The number of students is now close to 60, 15 of whom are first-year students. Eight of the Chinese students are currently studying at the University of Debrecen.
