Fire Station to Be Built at EcoPro’s Debrecen Plant

An application for planning permission for a facility fire station is currently being processed by the Hajdú-Bihar County Government Office, as first reported by Dehir after identifying the application on Hungary’s Electronic Planning and Documentation System (ÉTDR). Based on the listed land registry number, Dehir also established that the fire station would be constructed at the Debrecen site of EcoPro BM Hungary Zrt.

Responding to Dehir’s enquiry, the cathode manufacturer operating in Debrecen’s Southern Economic Zone said that, in accordance with legal requirements, it already has its own facility fire brigade. The unit is currently operating from a temporary base until the planning approval and construction of the permanent fire station have been completed. “This does not affect either our state of operational readiness or the effectiveness of emergency response. The service fully complies with all regulatory requirements and with the conditions set out in the decision of the National Directorate General for Disaster Management.”

The company added that the staffing levels, organisational structure and professional resources of its full-time facility fire brigade are determined by the National Directorate General for Disaster Management based on the risks associated with the site. The brigade operates on a continuous 24-hour standby basis. It also noted that members of the brigade receive regular professional training, practical exercises and ongoing refresher training to ensure they are fully prepared to carry out their duties to the highest professional standards.

The facility fire brigade is equipped with the specialist equipment required and approved by the National Directorate General for Disaster Management. Personnel are supported by modern firefighting and emergency response equipment, breathing apparatus, technical rescue equipment, personal protective equipment and communication systems for managing emergency situations. In addition, the site is equipped with the technical infrastructure and specialist equipment required to respond quickly and effectively to fires, technical rescue operations and other emergency incidents.

The company explained that the responsibilities of its facility fire brigade extend well beyond conventional firefighting. While responding rapidly and professionally to fires remains its primary duty, the brigade also plays a significant role in accident prevention and in supporting the safe operation of the site. Its principal responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining continuous fire protection readiness across the site.
  • Responding to fires, technical rescue operations and other emergency incidents.
  • Participating in the preparation, review and testing of emergency response and civil protection plans.
  • Conducting regular safety inspections of site facilities and production units.
  • Promoting safety awareness among employees and supporting preventative safety measures.
  • Cooperating with the professional disaster management authorities and other relevant public agencies.

EcoPro BM Hungary concluded by saying that the company places particular emphasis not only on complying with legal requirements but also on achieving the highest possible standards of safety culture. “As part of this commitment, the facility fire brigade actively contributes to preventing risks affecting local residents and the environment, improving protective measures and carrying out regular emergency exercises. Their work helps ensure the safe operation of the site and enables the fastest and most effective possible response in the event of an emergency.”

Several other major companies in Debrecen also operate their own facility fire brigades, including TEVA, BMW, and CATL.
