Flower Carnival Parade Returns as Spectacular Array of Colour in 2026
In keeping with a tradition spanning six decades, the Flower Carnival Parade was once again the largest event marking 20 August in Debrecen in 2026.
This year, audiences could admire a total of 12 floats: the Holy Crown; Debrecen’s historic coat of arms; the flower float created jointly by Oradea and Debrecen – The Cycle of the Seasons. A Tradition That Connects Us; CATL Debrecen – The Legend of Kincsem in the Year of the Fire Horse; TEVA Gyógyszergyár Zrt. – The Fairy Garden of a Full Life; Magyar Posta Zrt. – “Hey, Blackbird, Blackbird!”; Fórum Debrecen Shopping Centre – Gastronomic Experiences Above the City; EVE Power Hungary Kft. – Guardians of the Sunlight; Richter Gedeon Nyrt. – Shimmering Memory Orbs; Hortobágyi Nonprofit Kft. – Living Culture; Community Flower Float – We Pass On What We Have Received; and Flower Float Composition – Origins.
The Hungarian groups taking part in the carnival parade were Debrecen Folk Ensemble, Debrecen Hajdú Dance Ensemble, Főnix Children’s and Youth Dance Ensemble, Forgórózsa Dance Ensemble, Hortobágy Dance Ensemble, Debrecen Majorette Ensemble, Feeling Dance and Majorette Association, Dance Universe Dance Sports Association, Diamond Fitness Sports Association, Valcer Dance Studio, Piruett Dance Studio, R&B Dance – Hip Hop Dance School, Lesz Dance Dance and Sports Association, Level Up Dance Studio, Modern Dance-Play Studio, the dance group of the Mozdulj Debrecen! movement, Tűzlélek Fire Juggling Company, Magic Mirror Circus, Debrecen Garrison Band, Zichy Géza Youth Wind Orchestra, Szihalom Wind Orchestra, and the Youth Wind Orchestra of the Debrecen Music School.
The international groups taking part in the carnival parade were Batala Mundo (international arts group), La Compagnie Planète Vapeur (France), Sbandieratori Araba Fénice (Italy), SC Ritmika Shumen (Bulgaria), Stelzen Art (Germany), Folk Dance Ensemble “Svetozar Marković” (Serbia), K-Bitchumta – Light of Joseon (South Korea), Hungarian Lion Dance (Chinese arts group), and Ballet Folklórico Tonalli (Mexico).
The 2026 Debrecen Flower Carnival offers around 350 events in total as part of Carnival Week, which runs until 23 August. From 8.00 pm on 20 August, the night-time parade presents the carnival procession in a new visual format, while the buildings and public spaces of the city centre come alive with spectacular light projections.
