Flower distribution has started in Debrecen

In accordance with several years of tradition, the individual local government representatives of Debrecen will again distribute annual flower and balcony plant seedlings to the residents of Debrecen living in their districts in 2025.

The distribution of flowers began on May 21, 2025, and is expected to last until the first days of June.

At the first location, the municipal representative of the city, Diána Széles, said this is an old tradition. In 1998, the city government accepted the proposal of the Fidesz faction of the general assembly to jointly make Debrecen more beautiful through free flower distribution. The city’s residents have been very fond of this initiative ever since, and every spring, they wait for the flowers to decorate their gardens, balconies, and porches.

Every autumn, the distribution of leaf collection bags is equally successful. The municipality and the citizens help the city become tidier and cleaner.

In the next three weeks, individual municipal representatives will distribute about 122,000 flower plants in more than 40 locations in the city as part of the “Debrecen is Our Garden” movement. Interested parties can receive the plants by showing their address card.

The flower distributions occur at specified times and locations per city district or representative district. This information can be found on the municipality’s website (Flower distribution in Debrecen returns in 2025), or the website of the city’s expat office at https://debrecen4u.hu/flower-distribution-in-debrecen-returns-in-2025/

For those interested, it is worth following this continuously updated news regularly, as the flower distributions take place in outdoor locations, which may be affected by the current weather situation, which may result in changes to the dates.

In addition to the local government website, it is worth following individual municipal representatives’ announcements on social media.
