“What do Lajos Kossuth, Endre Ady, Zsigmond Móricz, Magda Szabó and Pope John Paul II have in common? They all visited the Reformed Church of Debrecen. This iconic building in Debrecen is significant from an ecclesiastical, cultural and historical point of view. It is our common treasure, which we want to preserve for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” the appeal says.
The building had a major renovation 12 years ago,but there were no resources for many things back then. And there is currently no funding available for the necessary conservation, neither from the state, nor from the municipality, nor from the church.
A fundraising campaign entitled “Be a building stone for the Great Church” has been launched. The money raised will be used entirely for the maintenance and renovation of the Great Church.
How can you help?
With the price of a coffee, but you decide the amount. You can buy a stone or more on a weekly or monthly basis. Then you can even create a wall. The list of “builders” will be published every month.

The proceeds from the Pentecost Parno Graszt concert are the first stop of the Great Church’s fundraising campaign.
Fonogram-awarded Parno Graszt is one of the most original bands playing authentic gypsy music, who contribute to the guaranteed good mood of the audience with their unique stage appearance, traditional instruments, and inimitable energy.
They will perform for the first time at the Reformed Great Church of Debrecen with their well-known songs, testimony, and a surprise guest. The band has already toured almost the entire world, giving concerts throughout Europe, in several countries in Asia, and several times in the USA and Mexico.
The band, which has been operating for more than 30 years, is constantly creating songs with new styles and appearances to make the true Parno Graszt feeling accessible to everyone.
Year after year, they collaborate with popular artists: Bagossy Brothers, Bohemian Betyars, Dánielfy, Kávéfőző, Pogány Induló, and Punnany Massif. The bond between the members is unbreakable, they form a family. Perhaps this is one of the secrets of the band’s success, the unbreakable unity.
This event will be a unique occasion, where the sacredness of the venue and the spiritual sensitivity of the performers promise a special atmosphere and concert experience.
Tickets are available at the ticket office of the Great Church, at the Karakter 1517 Bookstore and Café, and online at jegy.hu.
