Further favorable changes may be coming to the new parking system in Debrecen
As reported earlier, a new parking regulation came into effect in Debrecen in August. The inner districts of the city were almost always full of parked cars from morning to night. This caused a lot of annoyance to the residents, as they had difficulty finding an empty parking space in front of their houses. The solution to this is the new zoning system that reduces the overloading of parking spaces.
The original regulation was already modified by the last general meeting; several simplifications were introduced, and it was said at the meeting that further changes may come in the future, after evaluating experiences.
For example, a citizen spoke at the general meeting, complaining that motorcycles were not eligible for free parking near their residence. Mayor László Papp promised to look into the situation. As it turned out, several similar public complaints have been received since then, so László Papp proposes in his proposal to the general assembly that the exemption can be used for a maximum of two motorcycles per address after registration.
In June, the general assembly also decided that residents should also be entitled to free parking for a passenger car with a gross weight not exceeding 3.5 tons that is given to them for exclusive use by their employer and is owned or operated by the employer, in the immediate vicinity of their place of residence upon presentation of the employer’s certificate, and still for a maximum of two natural persons per address, 1 passenger car each.
Since then, it has been raised that company cars are not always owned by businesses; this is typically the case with leased and rented cars.
For this reason, the mayor is now proposing that free parking should be available for vehicles provided by employers for exclusive use as work equipment, regardless of who owns or operates them, but in this case the employer’s right of disposal over the vehicle must be verified in such cases.
The general assembly will decide on the proposal on Thursday next week.
András Fodor, the managing director of DV Parking Kft., which operates city parking lots, told Debrecen Television a few days ago that the number of residents of Debrecen registered in the new system is over 15 thousand and that a lot of registrations are currently in progress.
