Harro Höfliger’s new production hall in Debrecen handed over

The German-based company manufactures medical technology and pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging equipment in the new facility. The investment will triple the production area and double the number of employees within a few years.

“Debrecen’s economy is not only about the automotive and electronics industries, but also the most modern pharmaceutical-related machinery manufacturing is gaining an increasingly prominent role in the city,” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said at the handover of Harro Höfliger’s new Debrecen plant. The new, two-story, 9,000 square meter, high-tech plant sets a new industrial standard in Debrecen and, according to the company, also reflects the trust in Hungarian engineering knowledge.

“We are creating a stable, predictable future. We are bringing the know-how of high-tech pharmaceutical machinery manufacturing to Debrecen, with which we strengthen the region’s industrial diversity, and we do all this in a way that contributes to the health of millions of people worldwide with our work,” Csaba Juhász, CEO of Harro Höfliger Hungary Kft., emphasized.

Péter Szijjártó recalled that the reindustrialization of the past 15 years has brought significant job creation to Hungary, particularly in the eastern part of the country, with Debrecen playing a prominent role. He noted that over the past 11 years, 131 major investments in Hajdú-Bihar have received more than HUF 600 billion in government support, resulting in developments worth a total of HUF 4,000 billion.

“Today’s investment clearly shows that Debrecen’s economy is not only about the automotive industry or electronics, but also includes the most advanced machinery manufacturing connected to the pharmaceutical sector,” the minister pointed out.

The government supported Harro Höfliger’s HUF 6 billion plant investment with HUF 1.5 billion. The Debrecen site is of particular importance to the parent company, as it is its first unit outside Germany and plays a strategic role in its production structure.

“Debrecen is a very important cornerstone of our global production strategy, and thanks to the flexible capacity of the new plant, we can react quickly to changes in the international market,” Thomas Heckner, CEO of Harro Höfliger, explained.

According to László Papp, Harro Höfliger is an excellent example of Debrecen’s economic development. The company established its first production unit in the Határ Road Industrial Park in 2007, still under the name Manz, and has been an important player in the city’s industrial ecosystem ever since. “A stronger, more diversified, more crisis-resistant economy with a predictable future and lasting partnerships—this is what Debrecen has wanted to achieve in the past decade. The presence of Harro Höfliger is of paramount importance and exemplary value, as it is an excellent embodiment of the cooperation between the German and Hungarian economies, expertise, and professionals,” the Mayor said..

Harro Höfliger currently employs 232 people, and together with students and leased workers, more than 320 individuals work at the company. Thanks to the investment, the number of employees is expected to double within a few years.
