Hundreds of Debrecen teachers to join renewed training program

An innovative further training program to support the professional renewal of teachers has been launched under the leadership of the National University of Public Service. The University of Debrecen is also participating in the program at the regional level, thus helping the professional advancement of a total of 420 teachers in Debrecen and Szolnok. The program is being implemented in cooperation with the Debrecen School District Center.

The model program for the renewed teacher and tutor training has been successfully completed. By extending the duration of undivided teacher training to five years, the number of people admitted to teacher training has increased by fifty percent compared to 2022, and three times as many people were admitted to short-cycle teacher training nationwide as three years ago.

“Previous teacher training programs also included various school-based practices, typically held in training or partner schools. However, in this new teacher education model, school practice is integrated into all 10 semesters of the program,” emphasized Péter Forisek, Director General of the Teacher Training Center of the University of Debrecen.

Within the framework of the renewed teacher training system, a wide-ranging, nationwide further training program affecting all teacher training institutions will be launched under the leadership of the National University of Public Service, and local coordination will be carried out by the University of Debrecen in Debrecen and Szolnok.

“The principles and points included in the National Core Curriculum and the national core program of kindergarten education will appear in the training. In the case of freely elective courses, the personal preferences of the teacher may now be given space,” said Gyöngyi Szilágyi-Asztalos, Acting Director General of the Directorate General of Education of the University of Debrecen.

The aim of the initiative is to update the knowledge of teachers and kindergarten teachers and to provide them with professional support that can make the teaching career more effective and attractive.

“In the introduction of this further training program, several basic pillars would be highlighted: digitalization, making the teaching career more attractive, professional renewal, and strengthening practical knowledge,” as László Türk, director of the Debrecen School District Center, was heard.

As part of the further training of teachers, mentor teachers will also be trained in the national program.
