In recognition of its outstanding work, EDC Debrecen received the Local Government Award
The award recognizes the company’s outstanding work in advancing the development of Debrecen over the years.
On the occasion of Local Government Day, Dr. Tibor Navracsics, Minister of Public Administration and Regional Development, presented the Local Government Award to EDC Debrecen City and Economic Development Centre Nonprofit Kft.(short: EDC Debrecen), recognizing the company’s outstanding work in advancing the development of Debrecen over the years.
The award was received by Zoltán Pécskay, CEO of EDC Debrecen, at a ceremony held in the Grand Hall of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest. The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa.
EDC Debrecen has been a key player in Debrecen’s economic development since 2015, operating in four main areas—economic development, business development, urban development, and economic analysis. The company’s team of 30-35 experts works in close cooperation with the municipality, market players, state bodies, and international partners to implement the city’s strategic goals in an integrated manner.
Its results are outstanding: since 2015, it has attracted more than EUR 12 billion in working capital, which has created more than 20,000 new jobs, diversifying the local economy from electromobility to the mechanical industry and business services in many sectors. Their work has attracted global companies to Debrecen, including companies such as the German BMW Group, the Chinese CATL, SEMCORP, the Swiss Sensirion, and the American Flowserve. Meanwhile, Debrecen and the local investment promotion have been awarded by several independent organizations and rating institutes in recent years. The greatest professional recognitions were reported by the surveys of the Financial Times, fDi Intelligence, and the division dealing with international capital flows. Debrecen was included in the list of the world’s 10 best investment promotion destinations and was able to achieve a TOP10 ranking in the European survey for 6 consecutive times, which no city has managed to do before.
The business development programs launched by EDC Debrecen, such as the Supplier Program and the Future Vision Expo (Jövőkép Expo), form a bridge between large companies and local small and medium-sized enterprises, helping to build supplier networks and recruit labor. In the field of urban development, EDC Debrecen plays a key role in the design of strategic documents—such as the Debrecen 2030 settlement development concept—in the management of applications (TOP Plusz, INTERREG programs), and in the implementation of projects, increasing the comfort of the population. With its economic analysis activities, it supports the development of Debrecen’s economy and business environment with statistically supported, objective indicators. In addition to its professional recognitions—such as the Marketing Diamond Awards Diamond Prize and the Bicycle-Friendly Workplace title—it was also awarded the “Responsible Employer of the Year 2024” title and received the Family-Friendly certification.
EDC Debrecen, acting as a kind of bridge between the local government and the actors of economic life, represents a highly professional intellectual force that recognizes the opportunities of Debrecen and is able to act in its favor and has become a determining player in the life and development of the city. It is a reliable partner in the preparation and making of well-founded strategic decisions and is also an active and proactive implementer of jointly developed ideas in the fields of urban development, economic development, economic analysis, and business development, playing a significant role in the outstanding achievements of Debrecen in the past 10 years.
