It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that everyone fastens their seatbelts

In March this year, the police joined a European-wide initiative to check seat belt use. During the week-long crackdown, more than 800 people in Hajdú-Bihar were fined for not wearing their seat belts.

Since last Saturday, it is the responsibility of the owner or driver of the vehicle to ensure that everyone in the car complies with the seat belt regulations. 

The aim of the amendment is to encourage more people to use seat belts. According to statistics, in 2020 and 2021, one hundred and ten fewer people would have been killed in road accidents if they had worn their seat belts.

The fine is HUF 20,000 within residential areas, HUF 30,000 outside residential areas, and HUF 40,000 on highways.
