Mágnás Miska, Bán Bánk and János Vitéz are also coming to the Csokonai National Theatre

The jubilee season begins at the Csokonai National Theatre. It was announced at the company’s season-opening company meeting that a colorful program awaits the audience in the 2025/2026 season. A total of 17 prose works will be staged, while music lovers will be entertained by 6 operas, 3 operettas, and 2 musicals.

“Miska Mágnás,” “Bánk Bán,” “Portugál,” and “János vitéz”: these are just a few of the plays that the Csokonai National Theatre will be putting on the show in the anniversary season. At the company’s season-opening meeting on Tuesday, the acting director of the institution emphasized that this time too, the emphasis will be on prose performances, so the audience can expect a total of 17 such plays, of which 12 will be premiered. At the same time, musical theater lovers will not be left out, and here too, the audience can expect innovations.

“New titles may even be included, by which I mean that in the first season, in addition to the 17 prose titles, we will be performing 6 operas and 3 operettas. There are only a few changes regarding the 6 operas, such as “The Lady Butterfly” being included in the program and the plays “The Cloak” and “Sister Angelica” being postponed. And at the end of the season, we are planning a Falstaff performance and a renovated version of “Bluebeard,” which will appear as an extra in the announced program,”Acting director Dániel Vadász said.

Mayor László Papp also attended the theatre company meeting, where he emphasized that the past few years have not been uneventful in the theatrical life of Debrecen. He added that the institution has a new acting head as of September 1, and in a few days the “cívis” city will be the venue for the opening of the national theatrical season. He emphasized that Debrecen, as the maintainer, will provide all support for the formation of the next period. “A wage increase will also be implemented, thanks to this change in scale. I trust that acting in Debrecen will become increasingly attractive, will become increasingly attractive again for many, and from the point of view of artistic development, the fact that we will have a wider economic margin will have an encouraging effect,” László Papp said.

It was also announced at the season opening that a decision could be made in November on who the new, appointed director of the Csokonai National Theatre will be.
