Many People Kept Fit at This Year’s FőnixFitt in Debrecen
The area in front of the main stage was already full during the very first hour. The popularity of FőnixFitt is also reflected in the high number of returning participants. “I really love sports. I go to zumba and aerobics, and we also try out new opportunities,” said Krisztina Homokiné Hegedűs.
Orsolya Szőlősi-Papp took part in the programs throughout the entire day. “I signed up for four or five workouts that I want to attend. We’ll start here at the main stage, and I’m an active member of the Move, Debrecen! community, so we came to our zumba instructor and our aerobics instructor, and I’d also like to try a few new types of exercise today,” she said.
Move, Debrecen! had its own dedicated stage at FőnixFitt, where participants could also try activities such as senior joy dance.
At the opening of the event, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles emphasized that an important goal of the city is to convince as many residents as possible of the importance of regular physical activity. Since its launch five years ago, the Move, Debrecen! program has held 5,500 events, with a total of more than 280,000 participants.
“What matters to us is how the people of Debrecen are doing and that they feel good. This is why we created the Move, Debrecen! initiative—to give residents free opportunities to have some ‘me time,’ to break away a little from their daily routine—and what better way to do that than through sport. We believe that one very important thing for happiness is movement,” she emphasized.
At the event, participants were able to try more than ten different forms of exercise. In recent years, FőnixFitt has gained nationwide recognition. “In practice, we have reached a level where not only Debrecen, but the entire country has learned and recognizes the name FőnixFitt. This is best shown by the fact that we have guests from Szeged, Miskolc, Kaposvár, and Budapest, which clearly indicates that the event has become nationwide,” said chief organizer Nóra Berettyán.
In addition to physical activities, health screenings were also available at the event, and participants could receive advice on lifestyle changes as well.
