The University of Debrecen and GE Healthcare’s R&D collaboration in the healthcare industry continues. The next step in the joint development of the software system for radiation treatment procedures, which was launched last year, is clinical testing at the Oncological Clinic.
The number of cancer cases is constantly increasing worldwide, with 60-70% of patients receiving radiotherapy. The process from diagnosis to therapy can be accelerated by up to weeks with software from GE, a global company developing in collaboration with the University of Debrecen at the Oncological Clinic.
It is an intelligent software that integrates all the various modern medical devices and their data into a single system.
“It makes it available to other institutions, other hospitals so that these systems can be well integrated during the radiotherapy treatment process, providing patients with an unhindered, accurate and efficient treatment, “Managing Director of GE HealthCare Hungary Lehel Ferenczi said.
Rector of the University Zoltán Szilvássy emphasised Debrecen is the first clinic in Europe and the second in the world to test GE’s new radiotherapy software, which will enable world-class care for cancer patients in the region.
“Regardless of any human ability, patients will receive a highly standardised and very high level of complex oncological care and we can do it at a level immeasurably higher than ever before with GE,” he said.
The rector added that the University of Debrecen signed a strategic agreement with GE seven years ago. The latest area of this wide-ranging cooperation is research and development for patient care.
