More than 15,000 County Passes sold in Hajdú-Bihar in the first weeks of integrated public transport fares
After Budapest, fare integration has also come into effect in Debrecen, where from 24 December 2025 local and interurban public transport mutually accept local, county, and national passes. As part of this, DKV now provides its services to passengers traveling with a Hajdú-Bihar County pass and the Hungary Pass, while MÁV–Volán Group allows the use of DKV passes on its interurban services operating within the administrative area of Debrecen.
Based on pass sales data from the first weeks, many people have taken advantage of the more favorable travel conditions: according to MÁV–Volán Group, more than 15,000 County Passes have been sold in Hajdú-Bihar County since the launch, while DKV has sold nearly six thousand passes through the e-ticket system and at pass offices.
“This is a huge step forward in terms of passenger service and improving service quality. We see that if we consider both Volánbusz and DKV services, on several main access roads the number of public transport options available to passengers has doubled or even tripled,” said Szabolcs Tóth, CEO of DKV.
The city leadership primarily expects the new system to encourage more people commuting from the agglomeration to choose public transport. In addition, it is a significant convenience that passengers only need to purchase a single pass instead of two separate ones.
“The introduction of integrated fares also represents substantial savings for Debrecen families, as both city and county public transport can be used with a single pass,” emphasized Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa. He also highlighted that the new system is a major relief especially for students over the age of 14. “Previously, a monthly pass cost nearly six thousand forints, but now with a county pass they can travel on Debrecen routes for under one thousand forints per month,” the deputy mayor added.
DKV continuously monitors vehicle utilization, passenger numbers, and feedback from passengers. Based on these, they aim to further coordinate the operation of local and intercity services. The company asks passengers to visit the DKV website and social media pages for the latest information, where they regularly report on experiences and respond to public feedback as well.
