Music comes alive in a studio container

The Music Box (Zeneboboz), a special cultural initiative of the city of Debrecen, is stationed in the courtyard of the Debrecen SZC Creative Technical School. The project aims to strengthen the pop music life of school communities. The mini-studio will be at the new location from October to April.

Creation, music making, and learning—the Music Box project provides space for all of these. Its essence is to serve as a talent development point in a different Debrecen secondary school every year, in accordance with the vision of the school community. The studio container offers students the opportunity to experience the joy of creation, and it also has a community-building power and makes school cultural life more colorful. The Debrecen SZC Creative Technical School is the fifth stop of the Music Box.

The Music Box was presented with musical accompaniment today at the Creative Technical School’s courtyard, with 13th grade students Noel Papp and Dávid Kacsó playing the strings. The studio equipment, instruments, and amplifiers are provided by Rocksuli Debrecen for the young people.

In his welcoming speech, Deputy Mayor Dr. István Puskás said that it is gratifying that the Music Box was starting its fifth academic year in the life of Debrecen institutions. The essence of the complex program is to support young people. After the Csokonai, Tóth Árpád, Fazekas Mihály, and Medgyessy grammar schools, the Creative Technical School was the first institution of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center to join the project. “A particularly exciting opportunity is being created here, since many creative people live and work in this institution,” he explained. He wished that not only musicians but also graphic designers, textile workers, and emerging marketers—in other words, those trying their hand at the creative field—would take advantage of this special box. The venue offers opportunities to spread one’s wings, advance to the next level, find inspiration, and connect with others, and the deputy mayor is confident that Music Box will help nurture the talents of the future.

Sándor Szilágyi, the general director of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center, said that Music Box got to the best place among the center schools. In order for musical creativity to flourish, an inspiring location is needed—and the Creative Technical School has the breeding ground for this, as many talented, creative students study here. The general director expressed his gratitude for the center being able to join the cultural initiative. Sándor Szilágyi emphasized that in addition to professional learning, it is also important to nurture our souls, which we can do with music, which can be listened to and played by playing musical instruments. He shared that band formations have already begun within the institution. He hopes the studio will become a space for talented young musicians to practice and grow—some of whom may even gain recognition and bring pride to the city of Debrecen.

Enikő Kovácsné Győrfi, director of the Debrecen SZC Creative Technical School, referred to the Music Box as a special community space that provides opportunities for music making, creation, relaxation, and recharge. “It has barely arrived and has already become a symbol.” She believes that the Music Box is a real initiative that is the result of the coordination of the city and educational institutions. The studio will provide space for music and community. Today’s youth face constant pressure to perform, overwhelmed by information and digital noise—yet music, as a paradoxical symbol, may offer them a quiet sense of quiet harmony. After all, it is not grades and evaluations that count here, but the experience and co-creation. “Music is a tool; the goal is always the ”person”—this was the director’s motto. She hopes that the Box will become a space for creation, meeting each other, and listening to each other.
