New Debrecen parking system tailored to residents’ needs
Starting in August, some areas will remain free, while others will offer benefits to locals. Nearly ten thousand people have already registered.
The launch of Debrecen’s new parking system, initially scheduled for July 1st, has been postponed. András Fodor, CEO of DV Parking, spoke to local TV about the latest developments.
Registration began in January for the old zones and in May for the new ones. So far, nearly 10,000 residents have registered, along with around 1,000 electric vehicles—a figure he considers very significant. He recalled that the city council made essential changes to the November 2023 regulation during its June session.
Key Changes
- Free Saturday Parking: In Újkert, Vénkert, and Sestakert, parking will remain free on Saturdays.
- School and Institution Zones: No payment will be required between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in a 25-meter radius around schools, kindergartens, and social institutions.
- Simplified Registration: The address on the ID card no longer needs to match the one on the vehicle registration. It’s enough if the name on the ID matches the car owner’s name. Up to two cars can be registered per address.
- To improve communication, DV Parking has launched a Facebook page where users can ask questions via Messenger.
- Parking meters were installed and programmed in June, and zone information signs will be placed by August 1st, according to the CEO.
- Rákóczi Street Joins the Green Zone: Part of Rákóczi Street will be designated as a green zone. Local council member Dániel Barcza stated that residents living on the section of Rákóczi Street near Eötvös Street had previously reported being unable to park in front of their own homes. A large number of people parked in this area who had travelled from farther away to reach the city centre. The new regulation aims to change this situation.
