New Vehicle Storage Hall in Debrecen’s SME Park
Debrecen’s Southern Economic Zone has been expanded with another investment: a vehicle storage hall has been inaugurated in the SME Park, serving to strengthen local small and medium-sized enterprises that provide a livelihood for nearly two-thirds of Debrecen’s workforce.
The new vehicle storage hall in the SME Park, located in the southern economic zone, was officially opened on Tuesday with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. The development marks another step in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises; with this aim, the country’s first industrial park specifically designed for SMEs had previously been established.
The first phase of the programme has been successful: 16 small and medium-sized enterprises from Debrecen have constructed production halls and service centres on the 14-hectare site. One of these is Veker Team, operating in the healthcare sector, which together with its partner company manages a fleet of more than 40 vehicles. “Of course, the attitude of the city of Debrecen towards this SME Park was extremely important, as was the fact that small and medium-sized entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to establish their own bases and sites in such an industrial area,” said Managing Director István Pántya. He went on to explain that the newly inaugurated hall will primarily be used for housing vehicles, as well as for servicing and operational tasks.
At the handover ceremony, Mayor László Papp emphasised that one of the fundamental principles of the city’s economic development strategy is to ensure that, alongside major investments, local small and medium-sized enterprises are also given genuine opportunities for growth. The successful first phase will soon be followed by continuation, as preparations for the second phase have already begun. “We intend to continue our SME Park programme, and not far from here, slightly to the south-east, the second phase of the SME Park will begin. This has already been announced, and on an 11-hectare site we will continue the work that effectively guarantees that small and medium-sized enterprises in Debrecen can remain successful and competitive,” he said.
At present, small and medium-sized enterprises provide a livelihood for approximately 63 per cent of employees in Debrecen.
