Night of Power Plants to Return with New Venues in Hajdú-Bihar County
This year’s Night of Power Plants includes two new venues in Hajdú-Bihar County. In Debrecen, the water production facility will open its doors, while in Hajdúszoboszló, FGSZ’s compressor station will welcome visitors. At the country’s most popular energy-themed event, visitors will be able to explore six Hajdú-Bihar locations in total on 16 October and gain an insight into how energy and utility services are provided.
At the Debrecen venues, visitors can learn about the journey of water alongside energy production and district heating. At the water production facility, they can follow the route taken by extracted water as it enters the city’s water supply system, while at the Újkert section of the Utility Tunnel Corridor they can even walk underground through almost 14 kilometres of utility tunnels. At the Debrecen E.ON and Veolia power plants, visitors can see how electricity and heat are generated, while at the surface drinking-water treatment plant on the Keleti Main Canal they can learn about the technology used to produce drinking water. In Hajdúszoboszló, FGSZ’s new venue will present energy supply from a very different perspective: at the compressor station, visitors can see at close quarters how high-pressure natural gas transmission works and what technology is used to deliver natural gas to homes, power plants and large industrial consumers.
The organisers are once again expecting several thousand visitors at this year’s Night of Power Plants. Guided by specialists, participants can gain an insight into the operation of facilities that form the backbone of everyday energy and utility services. They can learn about the processes involved in energy generation and distribution, as well as the complex systems that ensure a continuous supply of electricity, heat, drinking water and natural gas.
The event also highlights the fact that using our available natural resources responsibly is a shared responsibility. Participants can also learn how energy producers and service providers adapt to changing patterns of demand, and why conscious use of energy and water is important in households.
Ensuring the continuous operation of energy and utility services requires not only modern technology but also the coordinated work of highly trained professionals. At the Night of Power Plants, participants can learn about the processes and professional tasks that contribute to maintaining security of supply. The fields showcased also demonstrate that utility services offer career opportunities in many different areas – not only for young people with an interest in engineering and natural sciences, but also for those interested in IT, control engineering, economics and other related fields. Securing the next generation of professionals is an important priority for the sector, which is why the Night of Power Plants also gives young people approaching their career choices an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of utility-related professions, the work carried out by those employed in the sector and the career opportunities available in these industries.
District Heating Day
The Night of Power Plants will once again coincide with District Heating Day this year. The Hungarian Association of District Heating Enterprises (MaTáSzSz), together with participating district heating providers and heat producers, will welcome visitors across the country with events and tours of their facilities. Participants can learn about the process of generating heat energy and delivering it to buildings, as well as the role district heating plays in modern and efficient energy use.
Night of Power Plants events and activities are free of charge but require registration. Registration for individual venues is already open at www.eromuvekejszakaja.hu. Capacity varies from one venue to another and is limited, so visitors are advised to register in good time.
