Pedestrian traffic will become safer at the intersection of Csigekert Street and Bölcs Street
The construction of a new pedestrian crossing has begun at the intersection of Bölcs Street and Csigekert Street, which will significantly enhance the safety and comfort of residents.
The investment will not only create a pedestrian crossing but also include the construction of new sidewalk connections and modern public lighting as part of a complex development, along with the relocation of bus stops.
“The city government pays attention to the local needs expressed by residents,” Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa said at today’s press conference. He added, “That is why we have municipal representatives, so that these needs can be channelled to the city government, and then we can provide funding for this in the budget and start the implementation. These developments often mean investments that significantly improve the comfort and life of residents here.”
At the intersection of Csigekert Street and Bölcs Street, taking into account pedestrian traffic needs, the local government decided to create a new, designated pedestrian crossing on the Csigekert Street branch, which has been a long-standing request of the residents. The planning and permitting were completed in 2024, and construction work began on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The project is expected to take approximately one month, depending on the weather conditions.
“The construction of a pedestrian crossing is not a simple process; it involves severe licensing procedures, which have serious conditions,” Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa explained. He highlighted that a new solid pavement connection will be built at both ends of the pedestrian crossing. Following safety requirements, three new public lighting columns will also be installed to ensure its standard lighting, as well as to increase the safety of the existing bicycle crossing located at the junction with Kiss Ernő Street.” Lajos Barcsa added, “With this, we will be able to ensure that if someone wants to cross this pedestrian crossing at night, they can do so safely.”
As part of the project, the two bus stops on Csigekert Street, next to the Bölcs Street junction, will also be relocated to ensure adequate visibility to the pedestrian crossing. During the relocation, new passenger platforms will be constructed, connected to the pedestrian crossing by a new sidewalk. For the blind and visually impaired, cam-shaped, attention-drawing stones will also be installed.
The pedestrian crossing will be built entirely from local government funds, with a gross amount of approximately HUF 19 million.
The local government asks drivers to give priority to pedestrians at all pedestrian crossings, in accordance with Highway Code provisions.
