Pharmaceutical company supports the University of Debrecen to purchase laboratory equipment
The pharmaceutical industry and the University of Debrecen are working in a close partnership for the most practice-oriented education of future professionals, which is exemplified by the HUF 2 million grant provided by TAPI Hungary Industries Ltd. The company has contributed to the purchase of equipment for the practical training of biotechnology students at the Department of Molecular Biotechnology and Microbiology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of University of Debrecen and for the laboratory work of PhD students in the field of genetics and microbiology.
TAPI Hungary Industries Ltd. was established in December 2024, after its parent company, Teva, announced its intention to sell its active ingredient manufacturing business at the beginning of last year. The company currently operates as the domestic active ingredient manufacturing company of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.
The cooperation between Teva and the university dates back many years, and TAPI Hungary Industries Ltd. also strives to maintain this good relationship, whose representatives recently visited the University of Debrecen in person, where Head of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology and Microbiology of the University of Debrecen István Pócsi, led them around the laboratories, in which students have already started using the renewed equipment.
István Pócsi highlighted that the department he leads has received valuable and continuous support from Teva and TAPI Hungary Industries Ltd. for the establishment and launch of the biotechnological departments, and then for ensuring the conditions for practical training within the departments that meet the standards of the time. He expressed his hope that the financial contribution will continue in the future and that the traditionally good working relationship can also extend to other areas of education and research.
Directing Manager of TAPI Hungary Industries Ltd. Richárd Kedei congratulated the outstanding teaching work in the biotechnologist bachelor’s and master’s degree programs during the visit, and also indicated that the graduates would be welcomed as employees.
In addition to manufacturing activities, active ingredient research and development activities are also a defining area of the domestic TAPI, whose head, László Zsolt Kovács, said, “ Since TAPI deals with the development of fermentation technologies, it is of utmost importance for us to keep up with the latest developments in the field of biotechnology. We are convinced that active cooperation between scientific and industrial players is crucial for the development of domestic biotechnology.”
Another important stage of the cooperation will be the Biotechnology at the University of Debrecen – 2025, International Symposium event, planned for the fall of 2025, at which TAPI will be represented with several presentations, presenting its research and development activities and its experience in industrial applications.
