On Saturday, about four hundred people waited at the University of Debrecen to find out who the winners of the fifteenth Brandy and Spirits Competition were.
In addition to Hungary, spirits from Romania, Slovakia and Croatia also came to the competition, a total of more than 2,400. The drinks were judged by a 31-member international jury over three days in Onga.
This year, there were several innovations in the competition: the title of Master of Variety was introduced, brandies older than three years, aka “old brandies” were given prominence, and the judging software was modified.
Deputy Mayor István Puskás said at the opening of the event on Saturday that more and more people in Hungary and Debrecen are committed to quality gastronomy, quality products and the culture of consuming them.
“It is a great tradition that is widely present in Hungarian society. But it is important to also show the quality segment of brandy consumption and brandy production. And let’s also show that this drink also has its own elegance and dignity,” István Puskás emphasised.
